I've been looking at the Brooks and Saucony line of apparel for running. I like the Brooks Nightlife Jacket and found a closeout price on the Saucony SonicLite HD Jacket. Both are highly visible. Any comments on either one or their line of clothing? Or my other option is just to use my cycling vest and jacket, both are Bike Nashbar brand, in hi viz yellow. Any thoughts, comments or advice? Thanks

I have a few Brooks pieces - mainly because they're one of the few manufacturers who consistently have hi-viz in their lineup.

I guess I can't speak generally about the brand, since they're all different. The Vapor-Dri half-zip running jersey fits kind of weird, much larger at the bottom than at the shoulders (like the old lady tops that are inescapable in Florida). The Equilibrium top is form-fitting but it isn't my favorite fabric - clingy and the sort of thing that feels like it's staticky even when it isn't. The waffle-weave Podium jersey is one of my favorite things.

I also just got this one (http://nikerunning.nike.com/nikeos/p/nikeplus/en_US/commerce/women?hf=10001^4294967132^4294962509&t=Women%27s%20Clothing%20Tops#/?ll=en_US&ct=US&pid=337608&cid=102201&pgid=337609&p=PDP) from Nike, and I really like it, although the wind/waterproof fabric in the shoulders makes it feel a little tight in the shoulders when it really isn't. It's much warmer than it appears, warmer than anything else I have of a similar weight.

Nancy,

We must have the same vest:D I got mine from Nashbar several years ago on sale and absolutely love it. I wear it when I ride and run. It's probably the most used piece of cycling/running clothing that I own.

I don't think you can go wrong with either brand. I've never used anything made by Saucony but shoes but I do have a Brooks jacket (and wear my vest over the jacket) and DH has the hi-viz Brooks jacket and a few other items of Brooks clothing. Brooks is high quality clothing, holds up well and is very comfortable.

Hope this helps.

Oak - I was thinking of getting that shirt from Nike. How warm is it? I pictured it over a wool tank for winter runs (~40F) to block the occasional sprinkling...will it be too warm for that? I know we are all temperature different, but I'm tired of ordering and returning stuff all the time (though Nike is good about it) so I thought I should ask.

For some reason, apparently I didn't record the day I wore it (only once so far). But I THINK the day I wore it, it was 41°F, sunny and a little windy - I wore it with a wool tank and it was too much. Without the base layer it would've been just right.

Awesome, thanks! I think I'm going to give it a shot. I can always return it if it feels too heavy. I'm really good with temp regulation on the bike, but I still am learning about how I do it when running.
