I know it won't seem like much to the seasoned veterans, but I just completed my first official "ride" this past weekend. My DH and I did the Tour de Shunk in Monroeton, PA to benefit LAF. We only did the 25 mile option, but I was really worried about it since I've only been riding for about 6 weeks. And the organizers definition that the 25 mile was "relatively flat" certainly is open to discussion! But the hills weren't anything worse than what we had been doing around here to get ready.
It killed me to see all those people on road bikes whipping past us (we were on mountain bikes), but DH just kept saying that doing 11 mph (average) on a mountain bike was pretty darn good and not to be discouraged. Hard not to be!
I was just happy that we finished the 25 miles before the people doing the 100 miles started coming in! ;)

Congratulations! 11 mph is great on a mountain bike - especially over that kind of a distance - shoot, I don't do much better than that on my road bike  People still fly past me when I'm out riding (fewer than used to, but still lots!) I seriously doubt I could have done 25 miles 6 weeks after I started riding!
I figure I do it for fun (most importantly) and I do it for fitness - so whatever has me working as hard as I need to work and yet still having fun is my speed:) No matter what anyone else thinks about it. :p

Inquiring minds want to know about your login... (as a Duke Grad and halftime Durham resident hoping to soon be fulltime) - What's the Scoop?? :D :D

Enormous - Gigantic - Huge - Obsessive - Duke Basketball fan! Can't say I had the privilege of going there - too poor and dumb! But I did apply just to get the rejection on Duke letterhead! :)

Allie... congrats to you on your accomplishment! DON'T worry about your speed... at least you're out there doing it! Lots of people spent their weekend at home on the sofa... you went out and kicked butt in a ride to help others!!! way to go... :)

Congrats on your first ride! And hubby is right, 11mph on a mtb is good. :-)
