View Full Version : November/December weight loss challenge

Possegal
11-07-2010, 09:02 AM
For 8 full weeks, (I think this actually ends on New Year's Eve, how perfect is that?)

Let me know
(1) if you want to join in
(2) what your weight is on Friday the 12th of November
(3) what your goal weight is for 31 December - if you want to, if you don't want to set a goal like that, then no worries.

I'll post the link to the chart later in the week.

Also - how the heck is it already time for the Nov/Dec challenge? Where did July and August go to? :)

I just realized that New Year's Eve technically makes it a 7-week challenge, but I said last time that I thought I might need to do that to get it a bit more on track for ending at the end of a month. This seem the perfect time to do that since I like the ending on the last day of the year.

Just for clarification.

Please count me in, too. I'll post my new weight and goal on Saturday.

I 'failed' on the last challenge by just letting things get away from me. I'll do better this time! ;)

7 weeks is a good idea, by the way. :)

Count me in. Weight goal is to be under 120, so I am looking for 119.8 on the scale.
Thanks for letting me join once again.

I would like in again.

I've backslid a little bit this year. I need to be more accountable again, and maybe checking in with you inspiring ladies every week will help.

135.5 this morning. Goal on 12/31 is 130. 130 was the weight watchers goal I hit in May 2009, after starting at 165 in Nov 2008. I maintained that for a solid year, but these last 6 months I've been lax about recording and have allowed myself too many indulgences. Hence the 5.5 pound backslide. Time to get back on the program.

Thanks Possegal!

No change.

In an attempt to avoid holiday weight gain while on vacation with family next week, I have planned 300K of bike riding (Tuesday & Friday) and a 5K race on Thursday. I'll probably run Mon & Weds too. I'm hoping that will offset all the pie I'm likely to eat. OK, not likely. All the pie I *will* eat. ;)

Catrin, I'm exactly 100 pounds heavier than you.

231.8

I'm trying really hard to visualize myself much thinner and what that's going to take as far as lifestyle changes. More regular exercise for one, and less sugar. I'm all about the holiday baking, but I'm trying to limit it this year.

I cooked for 10 of us and I joked that I felt like our Mum - I really didn't eat very much after all the cooking. If I could have worked out a bit, maybe I would have lost a bit more than 0.4 lbs. But I'll take it.

I started a new job a couple weeks ago and I had the grand intention of turning over a new leaf at that same time, with better eating and exercise. But I also started the new job very sick, so it wasn't really happening.

Now I am telling myself that tomorrow is my new leaf turning. Fingers crossed!

I think visualization does help a lot, at one time I was quite close to your current weight. Hang in there - you are certainly far more fit than I was at that weight!

I have gained 3 pounds back since I had to cut back on all cardio exercise due to the over-use leg injuries. That is quite frustrating, but I try to keep it in perspective. I am finally able to start ramping things up - albeit slowly...

Please mark me 135 for last friday.

Considering the required pie-to-people ratio of 1:1 at our Thanksgiving gathering (it's a tradition), I'm rather pleased with that number.

I made coconut cream. We also had pear-ginger, mock mince, banana cream, pecan, raspberry chiffon and lemon meringue!

Cream pies aren't that hard. The key is not overcooking/scorching the custard. It's chemistry, so following the instructions is important. Too many people try to modify a recipe before they learn the original, and then are disappointed when it flops!

The coconut cream I made this year turned out to be one of my all-time favorites.

OK, now I'm hungry. I'd best go find me an apple....

113.8 today (after the bike ride ;) happily down from 114.? Tuesday.

Oooh - it was reallly tough week.
My secret santa at work gave me Hershey's kisses 2 days in a row, and I quit counting how many I ate after a while. And Friday was worse: the students brought me so many gifts of treats that my desk was like an edible minefield for anyone attempting to stay on track- home baked cookies and nut bread and buckets of chocolate. Then the PTA served a catered Mexican food lunch and last night we went out to a fancy restaurant to celebrate my daughter's graduation from college... and champagne.

I'm SO grateful that 1) my hip issues are backing down and I can ride off the calories and 2) I live in Arizona where the riding weather has been gorgeous.

I hope everyone is hanging in there with all the season's temptations. We can do it!

Getting the updates in there today.

My weight is yet again up. I did way too much snacking and absolutely no working out. Been talking with my sister, again, about how I don't know what it is I need to do to get myself serious about this all. I can't bear another year of feeling lousy about myself and seeing pictures of fat me. The depression over that was not helping, just led me to snacking.

Then today, got horrific news that we lost one of my nephews early this morning in a car accident. Now, not feeling so much like eating. Think tomorrow I will try and put some of that pain out on the trail with either a long walk or maybe take my Kona out in the little bit of snow that is still out there.

I told one of our cousins it will probably really hit me when I'm trying to wrangle all 12 of my nieces and nephews for a family picture and I only count 11, and then I realize that there really only are 11 now. :(

OK, OK, OK ..... 143 .... Soooooo, the wrong direction!

Well, maybe one good kick start .... I finally got some long needed braces and eating is a bit of a challenge right now. Might just be the kick start I need. LOL

Plus, I ordered a DVD "Spinervals Ultraconditioning DVD 3.0 - Ultra Full Body with Iron Girl". Anybody used it? What's your opinion?

Merry Christmas to all!

Possegal, I just read backwards this thread. I'm sorry to hear of the loss of your nephew. Such difficult and tragic news to hear for all your family. There really are no words that truely comfort ... keep in your heart you have many TE friends who are always ready to listen.

Take care.

Possegal- so sorry to hear about your nephew. Hugs.

The scale crept back up to 114.8- even getting back on the bike a little more now has not been enough to cancel the extra calories from the holiday season "snickie-snacks" as my daughter calls them. Looking forward to a better number next week.

Oh, Possegal, I'm so, so sorry for your family's loss. How old was your nephew? Was anyone else hurt in the car accident? It's really, really hard to face a family holiday when you have members missing. There really are no words that can comfort the sense of loss.

It's been over a year since my father died, and then my grandfather two months later, and then my father-in-law three months after him, all from cancer. They were all a good bit older, though, and had lead pretty full lives.

The deaths of young people always seems so much more tragic to me. Although I'm really missing my father -- he died without fulfilling one of his biggest life dreams, publishing a novel. He was an accomplished Blues musician and songwriter -- you can see some videos he posted on YouTube -- but the books never came together.

I hope your family deals with your nephew's death well. As well as can be expected. Give yourself some time, though.

I'm tearing up just thinking of your family photo missing one person.

My deepest condolences to you and your family Possegal.

My weight suddenly decreased in spite of Christmas goodies and such to 125.5. I'm not sure why...but I'll take it.

Christmas eve weigh-in. 133.5. I shudder to think what it will be on New Year's Eve. I loved every minute of my holiday celebration, but hooboy, did we eat!

I'm taking a pass on the Christmas weigh-in. I was at my parents' for the week and while I'd aranged for a way to calibrate my mother's scale to mine, my plans were foiled before I'd even arrived (long story). So I have no idea what I weighed this past weekend.

Sorry for the delay, and of course I totally understand folks taking a pass on the holiday weigh-in. :)

There will of course be another thread for January/February, watch for it and post there if you want to go another round. :D

Small consolation but grateful that no one else was involved. He was driving alone and lost control of his car so no other car. I guess we will never know exactly what happened but it seems that he didn't suffer, so we hold on to that. He was 26 and still figuring out who he wanted to be when he grew up. Was working to save money to hike the Appalachian trail come March and we had plans for me to meet him along the way to restock him a couple of times. :(

I do thank you all for the kind thoughts and words.

Possegal--what a tough loss. Your nephew sounds like my kind of guy.

I'm calling it a pass for this weight challenge. We had two deaths in our family as well and with Christmas and working OT and everything else, I just haven't done myself right.

I'm planning on coming back strong for the next challenge. Thanks for your work on this!

I'm sorry to hear of your family's loss, Possegirl. Holidays won't be quite the same for his parents/siblings.

When I hear of soaring Christmas music, I can't help but think of my sister. Christmas was much more subdued and contemplative this year.

Back to 134 for me :( Holiday season is about behind us however, and my legs can finally take some real work - so I expect that things will improve in the next challenge.

235.6

No exercise to speak of since that MCL tear in August, though. The doomed "5K Every Day in August" plan. What a loser idea that turned out to be.

There's always 2011, I guess.

I didn't exactly participate in this challenge - but I met my goal. I did not gain any weight between Thanksgiving and New Year's! I made my goal despite life getting in the way of much serious exercise!

I'm looking forward to the next challenge - and hopefully some progress!
