I ran over one of those Wooly Bear Catapillers on the trail last time out. I missed him with my front tire and I think I got him with my back :(

I almost hit a big pile of dog poo, but luckily I was able to avoid that mess!! Right in the middle of the trail too. Sticks and crunchy leaves were on the "hit" list the last month, but leaves are becoming less prevalent, huge wind storm last week really did a number on the fall leaves here.

My last ride was mostly leaves. Didn't ride the last few days, as it's been raining. We got snow this morning.:(

Be careful with the leaves!! Especially if they might be wet. I was walking on dry leaves last night and was surprised at how slippery they were.

I've come close to running over horse, uh, manure on the Bike Trail. Not in summer, thankfully...

Better that than a road taco! ;)

Today I ran over...WAY too many sticks and twigs on the bike trail. I was SO glad to get onto the street, where it was cleaner. Some of those twigs can really catch you off-guard. If you hit 'em just right, especially going into a turn...makes my bike all squirrely and freaks me out. Hopefully, the trail will be cleaner tomorrow, as they usually "blow" it to clear all the debris off, on Mondays.

A piece of poor Jack!..... Someone had been smashing jack o' lanterns in the road.... I didn't see a big old piece of poor Jack's head and ran it over. Scared me cause it was *big*.

....a big speed bump, at speed!! Closest I've come so far to falling off my bike, hard! I totally didn't see it, even as I ran over it - both hands were jolted off the handlebars, felt like me and the bike flew about a foot into the air, but somehow I managed to regain control and ride on - phew!

Not today, but recently, some kind of wild berry that gets all over my down tube. My friend's dog thinks my bike is delicious. I caught him licking my tires.

The other day, riding up this same friend's driveway, which is covered with leaves over acorns. I was doing a comical Fred Flintstone maneuver, pedaling but going nowhere. Usually acorns are no big deal, but with the leaves over them, they became really slippery.

How funny! In the past I've caught my cat licking my tires and my pedals. No clue what was on there.

Recently, I hit (not ran over) a very large (larger than a grapefruit), crumpled piece of rusty metal. :( I believe the metal (unidentifiable) glob fell off a truck transporting crushed cars??? I was riding across a busy bridge in the early evening hours and I didn't see the debris until the last minute plus it resembled a leaf. I was biking pretty fast and hit the debris so hard that my bike started wobbling and swerving. Instinctively, I kicked my feet out of my power grips to try regain some sort of balance. My husband was ahead of me and had no idea what was happening. I had visions of hitting a car, hitting the concrete, or going over the wall into the river. It was the scariest moment I've had so far on a bike. I have no idea how I regained control except I had a guardian angel that day. Of course, I had a flat tire though.

Sunday evening, after dark, I ran through a fairly fresh pile of horse sh*t. And yeah, my dog was very interested!

There are trucks going past my house on the way to a junkyard/ metal recycling center every day, and sometimes they shed. I'm always keeping my eyes open, on bike or foot, and will stop and move things off the street.

Thinking about this, had I run over the burrito, the dog would have eaten my bike. Note to self: watch out for burritos. ;)

I ran over a garter snake last week! It was about 8 inches long, and thin. I just plain didn't see it!

ROFL. I'll be sure to avoid anything vaguely burrito like while biking.

I always see, but rarely run over, armadillos, squirrels, racoons, frogs and snakes in various forms from stinky piles to road pizza. Today I almost added a hawk and another squirrel.

I came around a rather sharp corner to have a hawk explode off of the road, going up and to the right, and a squirrel (who he had obviously just struck at but escaped) running away across the road to the left. In the split second of reaction time I eliminated swerving right for fear of knocking myself out and the hawk out of the sky, or swerving left for fear of flinging the squirrel through the spokes of the wheel and crashing so just ducked down close to the handlebars and powered through.

Scary, but what a beautiful bird, and a lucky squirrel.

Worms! Long slim, slimey ones, short fat juicy ones, itsy bitsy, fuzzy wuzzy worms... and the occasional slug. A northwest hazard I guess, but nevertheless not much fun to clean off the underside of your bike frame...YUCK.

Even worse to have to peel them off of your face.... (I had a big nasty earthworm stuck to my forehead after a race once....)

Chickens! I was riding last week and there were several chickens right by the side of the road (I live in IN and ride in the country. Haha.).

Seaweed. We've had serious high tide for the past week. Brings the ocean right up over the road.

Leaves, the odd acorn, and very nearly a black and white cat! Silly creature ran out in front of me.
