Johan Bruyneel is in Zambia right now with World Bicycle Relief. He just posted a few photos on versus.com, with this comment: "A few pics from Zambia. U can c that normal bikes don't last long here. Special World Bicycle Relief bikes r needed."

Note the second photo in particular. Makes you realize that the crappiest bike you've ever ridden is actually pretty darn good.

I am a huge fan of what they are doing. I have one of their water bottles and think it is great what they are trying to do for people who maybe don't have any reliable form of transport. Bikes are so good for your independence, you know?

Yes, that was good food for thought.
How to put things back into perspective, in this Season of the year right after Interbike when many of us are entertaining the idea of some new component or perhaps a new bike.
How the same object may have such a different impact. A new bike for us is indeed a small change in the big scheme of things - looks better, it's a nice extra in our garage, shaves a few seconds in the next race maybe. A new bike for them could mean access to resources, education, health care - and be a life changing opportunity.

The last pic said it all. This certainly is a wonderful thing they are doing.
