The one-time showing of Race Across the Sky 2010 is Thursday, November 4 at a theater near you! A group of us went last year and loved it and plan to go again this year.
If you don't know what it is, it's a video of the Leadville 100 Mountain Bike Race that is shown one night at 500 theaters across the United States. To see where the closest showing to you is, go the the website (http://www.raceacrossthesky.com/) and click on the link to buy tickets. You will be asked to put in your zip code then select "buy tickets" to get the list of the closest theaters.

And if you see a girl in a back brace watching on the Powerline...that's me :)
(P.S., I think there's an encore performance in some theaters on the 9th as well)

They're covering the foot race as well this year.
Two people from my area - including a woman who used to kick my @ss on the bici 20 years ago - did the run this year and finished. So I'm expecting the showing will be better attended this year than it was last year! A few of us from the bike club are getting together for dinner and the movie.
Before I saw last year's movie I was just like, "meh, mountain bikes, well, it's something to do on a weeknight." Now I'm excited! :D

It's actually showing here (I'm surprised!), but I'm not sure I'll be going. The $13 ticket is a little steep right now.
There's a group of MTBers from my uni's club going, though.

Just returned from seeing Race Across the Sky 2010. It was just as good or better than last year's. There is an encore showing on November 9. If you didn't see it tonight, I would highly recommend going on the 9th.

Haha, I liked last year's better on first read. I guess it seemed more coherent - but on second thought, that's probably because last years movie was ALL ABOUT LANCE.
There were definitely a lot of people in the theater who weren't familiar with the background of the movie at all. Very cool.
By the way, I think Dave Wiens is adorable. But I'm sure his really hot wife thinks so too.
Edit - I also recommend going to the other screening if you missed this one!

We saw this last night, too.
DH commented..."Is that really live??" about the panel discussion at the start and end with Levi et al. I think it was...but I wonder how that worked.
Film was great. I really like the fact that they did NOT spend the whole show highlighting the leaders, but really focused on the challenges of the every-man doing the ride. A lot of chuckles of sympathy from the (small) crowd when they showed folks off to the side, or reacting to a question about the ride.
Unfortunately, the sound cut out completely for about 30-seconds when they were interviewing the older couple, the man (who we ultimately found out, when the sound came back on) who had ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease). It was a bummer, but perhaps it was just as well we didn't hear it, b/c DH's dad died of ALS.
Good flick. And we didn't see last year's.....

Actually, my very favorite quote of the whole movie came from the man with ALS, so I'm sorry you missed it. I'm sorry I missed his name so that I can attribute the quotation, which I've added to my list of favorites.
He said that when he got his diagnosis, he thought, "Turn into it and throttle up."
What a wonderful attitude.
As for the technical details ... it's a live satellite feed. I think any theater that does the events does them all??? There are a dozen or so live simulcasts from the Metropolitan Opera every year, and in a week or two they're broadcasting a production of Les Misérables.

So if I go see my local theatre’s re-screening on Tuesday I will miss a MAJOR rehearsal (non-paying gig) and feel horrible guilty that I’m taking time off from my gig to do something fun. I’m dilemmafied. Should I do this and face the wrath and indignation of my director, or should I be one of the probably only 2 people in the theatre here in this non-biking friendly town I live in? Please help me solve my crisis. This has me not sleeping at night. Oh wait, I already did not sleep at night.

Last year's movie is available on DVD and Blu-Ray (including a recording of the panel discussion), so I imagine this year's will be, too.

Saw it Tuesday and loved it. This is the second year I've watched it and both times most of the audience left at the end...not knowing there was a concluding panel discussion. I think the producers probably need to do a better job of addressing that.

At my theater, they brought the lights up before the panel discussion. I want to say they did the same thing last year, but I'm not 100% sure.
It was late (8:30 p.m. on a weeknight??) and some people would've left anyway - my friends knew there was a panel discussion but left after the movie ... and they're both retired, just early risers with kind of a long drive home.
So I don't know how many people really left because they didn't know about the panel. They did mention, after introducing the panelists in the opening bit, that they would be back after the movie.
