I hate moving. Did I mention that before? I don't have THAT much stuff, and I live alone so there is no one I can make...errrrrr.... ask to help me ;) So my living room now resembles a combination of a warehouse and obstacle course. I have to be out of the apt within 20 hours of moving out so I am cleaning/spot painting/whatever in an attempt to ease the process and get as much of my deposit back as I can as I pack.

I am not sleeping much - the inability to sleep is from the lack of cardio exercise - my physical therapist said I could swim (but I don't know how to). I WANT to ride my bike or go to spinning class...but I can't just yet. Wouldn't have time if I could.... Walking doesn't get my heart rate above 103...

I will love the new apt after I am settled but I HATE the process....

Ok, I am done venting. Time to go sign my new lease and get my keys  :) :D

Swimming lessons! You know you need to learn ANOTHER complicated set of movements in dimensions that your body isn't used to thinking about.

I hate moving, too. Hope it's as painless as possible for you.

No swimming lessons...water is just for drinking, bathing, laundry and.....hot tubs ;) That is all...I can, in a pinch, do a back stroke and float but that is about it and I am fine with leaving it that way

Ok, my break is over. Time to open a beer I think and head back to packing/cleaning the kitchen. If'en I can find that bottle opener first :o

You need this belt: http://www.patagonia.com/us/product/patagonia-o-web-belt?p=59175-1-155

You need this keychain: http://www.rei.com/product/745638

And you need this bike: http://www.rodcycle.com/

I have 2 of the above.... access to beer at all times is CRUCIAL!

Ooooh, I will take one of each!

I DID find my bottle opener :D It certainly makes cleaning the oven a slightly better chore.

you have my sympathy- having moved 17 times in 37 years of marriage, both within the country and internationally and having had to handle it alone since my husband was always sent off immediatly ( no not military, oil and chemical construction and petro chemical) and for 10 out of the 17 with kids and pets, I feel your pain. You'd think about the third time it would get easier but it never does.

Take a little extra time to muck hew and sort, and another little time to explore the new area as a reward and before you know it, you'll be moved. Then just unpack basic necessities and take a break before you start unpacking anything but bare essentials.

good luck

Oh yes. And pizza. I refuse to move without access to beer and pizza. The upside to moving is that you have a standing excuse to not go to any social events you don't want to go to, you can walk around inside with shoes on and not tidy for days and weeks, and you can eat pizza at odd hours of the day. Otherwise moving stinks.

Wish that my body liked pizza...but it doesn't. Not commercial pizza that is :) There is something I make that passes for pizza that uses whole-wheat pizza dough as a base that works for me - no meat though. I think it is the fat content of more traditional pizza that does it to me. I love the taste, but I cannot eat it.

This may, or may not, be a surprise, but there is a little OCD to my personality. I really cannot relax until everything is unpacked and all boxes are gone. Sad, I know, but that is just the way it is for me. I think that I am getting a little better in this department, so we will see - regardless beer and good sandwiches will get me through :D

Since my leg is pretty much pain free now, I am going to ask my PT if I can take a short inaugural ride from my new apt if I don't clip in. The tendonitis feels much better (and did improve before I went to see him), the only thing I really feel now is the strained hamstring when I bend down. I know, he will probably laugh, but am going to ask anyway :) I KNOW what caused the strained hamstring - it wasn't the bike...

Feel like coming to visit? I've lived in this house for a year and there's still a room of boxes to unpack!

(And no, it isn't just things I should toss since I haven't used them in a year...my DVD player is in one of those boxes b/c I didn't have a tv until this summer:) )

I feel your pain about moving!!!! Just keep telling yourself that having your life and routine turned inside out is only temporary. Somehow that always helps me.......along with frequent rest breaks and cold beer. Must have beer!!!!

Moving next week. I have no direct contact with the movers that have my belonging in storage. Just a web site.... military moves, such fun.

So this is my last *free* non-chaos weekend, and I plan to take full advantage. Next weekend is the walk through of the house. I have GOT to find something fun to do to get out of the hotel.

So Beth, did you take the house after all (over the apt)? I didn't see the resolution to your dilemma!

Sorry for the thread hijack... we just moved this June (in 98 degrees + humidity over two weekends!), and it is indeed a PITA! :(

Last time we moved my cat disappeared. I thought he slipped out the door while we were bringing things in and searched ALL over the place for him. I began hearing him.. this sad lonely meowwwwwwww.. I was beside myself. I didn't know where exactly he was and thought he may have climbed down in the floor registers. This went on for two days. On the second day I called the SPCA as I was at my end. He was in the house, but I couldn't exactly tell where the sounds were coming from and now I wasn't hearing them as often.

SPCA comes and looks at the duct openings and asks how big the cat is and says he's too big to have fit down there. He looks in the basement. Finds paw prints in the dust on top of an old shelf that and finds my cat hiding up between the floor joists where the basement has been finished with drop ceiling. Too far to reach so I put some canned food out and lure him out to within reach and pull him out. He wasn't entrapped, just scared, so when I pulled him out I used cardboard to seal off the exposed joists.

I told my Realtor who helped us find the home about the story and she laughed... at least by the time I told her I was settled down enough to laugh too, that or I would have just slapped her. SELL me a house that eats my cat will you!!!! LOL

Hope the unpacking and such is over soon!!

Shannon - my youngest cat has managed to find all sorts of places to hide in the hotels on our road trip up here - like between the furniture and the wall, or behind drawers, or in false backs. She still checks the cabinet in the office area of our current hotel/home because she managed to get behind the drawer when it was open and wants to hide back there again. Stinker.

Good luck with your unpacking - and make sure there aren't any kitties in the box stuffed with paper. Ask me why I know...:p

Just waitin for friends to show now - I am SO glad that today is the full move. No Internet access now outside of my phone until Monday. I will be too busy unpacking and cleaning the old apt anyway - I have to turn my keys in tomorrow.

The move is OVER - and almost everything is unpacked now :) I obviously have internet access now. Tomorrow I hang stuff on the walls and assemble a leaning bookcase...and then I will be done. Back to the office Wednesday!

Catrin - maybe I missed it but where did you move to? Are you still in Indy? Glad you are getting things in order regardless. I know how frustrating it is when you can't find ANYTHING! In December I am moving AGAIN! It's just upstairs but still. Fortunately the tenants above me are leaving (OMG noisy) and I get to take their apartment which is on the top floor so it should be a quieter apartment. Ahhhhhhhhh, the sound of silence.

I only moved about 7 miles, if that far. I know you are familar with Eagle Creek Park, I moved into an apartment on 56th st. right across from the Park :)

It is that frustration at not being able to find things that drives me to keep unpacking until I finish. There was a time that I couldn't sleep until I was done, but I have more stuff these days. I was proud of myself that yesterday I actually took two breaks from unpacking - once to go to church and again yesterday evening to go to a friends house for a small party for a couple of hours :D

I hope the move works for you! I thought about an upstairs apt, but my 35-pound beloved steed convinced me that I didn't want to do that. Thankfully this building appears to be far better built and doesn't carry sounds nearly as bad as my last place. I am thankful!
