Happy Monday everyone (ugh)...

I had to get my rear wheel replaced on Friday. I got a big flat on Thursday night and took it in for a lesson on how to replace a rear flat and more tubes. My LBS guy told me I had to get my rear tire replaced because I've clocked too many clicks :) He showed me where little holes were starting to form. First off, that was a great ego boost because the boys now think I'm a "real" rider. :D

My question is what is the norm for tires to go?

On a side note, I also did my first metric century this Sunday. Must've been that new wheel...

hey blue rider... congrats first of all on your metric!!!

as to tires... it really depends on the tire... race tires don't typically last as long as other tires... I ride a tire called a Continental GatorSkin... most people get 3-5000 miles out of them!! BUT I had Michelin race tires prior and everyone was impressed that I got 900 miles out of them... the Gators roll slower but I'm no racer and got tired of fixing flats... a good trade off to me...

i use michelin pro race tires.... the last pair i got 3608 miles on... the current pair i have 2121 miles on.... i love them!

Thanks for your advice and encouragement! I'll make a note of the brands you suggested. Unfortunately, I didn't get a say this time so they installed a std Bontrager Race tire? It seems pretty tough. I don't want to spend major dinero on tires but at the same time, don't want to replace them so often.

I imagine once the snow hits, the trainer is going to burn through them quicker? I guess the front tire has a longer life span then because your bum isn't on them. Maybe I should rotate??? :confused: Sorry, typing out loud...

if you rotate... you need a third tire to rotate in... you always want your BEST tire on the front.... so never rotate a more worn rear tire to the front!

I buy a separate tire (not a really cheap one because they often wear through pretty quickly) that I use solely for when I'm on the trainer. Then you keep your good, more $ tires for the road. Or once your good road tire starts to look old, you can use that for the trainer (if it blows while you're on the trainer, no big deal)

I have an extra rear wheel for my trainer. I mount an old, worn tire on it so I can save my "good" tires for the road. It got kind of expensive wearing out tires on the trainer.
