I'm looking for a beater for campus and like old steel frame mountain bikes. I'm going to see if this fits in the am. I was curious what year this was but it's too old I can't archive it on Treks website. Thanks in advance.:) It's posted as a Trek 800 Sport if that helps.

  OMG I totally have that bike!!
It's a great beater/commuter/grocery getter! I got mine when it was new at some point in middle school for Christmas. I want to say it's a 1998??

Have you checked http://www.vintage-trek.com/ ?
Looks like it's probably: "97, Dry bright blue with black decals, also gloss ice green with white decals."

jdub -- Eureka!!!!! :):):) Thank you!
This bike looks bomb proof, love the steel frame with all the goods to add racks n' stuff! And of course, it's green! I'm hoping it fits, its an 18 inch. I tried a specialized hard rock that was a 16 and it was practically a kids bike for me. Dude selling it says he's 5'8 and I'm about 5'7.5. Keeping my fingers crossed.

LOL! I didn't even notice that! Fortunately I had already had my first cup of coffee when I wrote that so I was all good. :D This morning however....

Each time I read the title of this thread I think: uh, 2010, right?
Sigh. The memory goes a little every year.
I kept thinking that too. I finally opened the thread to make sure someone wasn't asking the date.

According to the link in that link mine is the silver one from '97. I just put a magnet to it and it is definitely steel, not aluminum.

Asking the date sounds like something I'd be tempted to do.
Right before I remembered to point the mouse to the time on the task bar.

Yeah. I've asked DBF what time it is...while sitting in front of my computer.

You guys will love this. I bought the bike for fifty bucks, it has literally sat in this guys garage doing nothing for all these years. It is like a brand new bike. Had it checkout out at the bike shop and aside from a few loose bolts the thing is pristine. Got a beautiful green MB to take to the park now. :D:D:D:D

Here's the new bike. I opted for toe clips for her as this is the bike I plan to ride to the park the run the trails, so it needed to be trail shoe friendly and carrying 2 pairs of shoes is annoying. I added some bottle cages and a rear rack. I tweaked the derailleurs a little now they are perfect. I'm so proud of myself for learning to adjust derailleurs. :) I don't know why but this picture doesn't want to blow up?

So... I'm riding my new bike and thinking...geez my butt is hurting more than normal even with a different saddle. I'm pretty sure the rails are supposed to be strait and not squished out on one side . Could explain why my butt and back have been so friggin sore.:o

mine had the stock saddle and it is AWFUL! I tested out the bike for the first time in years this summer and realized why I had a hard time riding distance on that bike. Need to get a new saddle for it.
