2 western pygmy rattlesnakes
These snakes have a gorgeous copper color stripe along their back set against a purplish gray background and accented with black markings. I'm always fascinated with the patterns and colors of nature.

I can't tell, one looks kinda fat -- maybe he/she just ate? Very cool, and great colors!

Very pretty snakes. Looks like someone had a snack!

Beautiful animals! Did they ever find the rider ahead of you? :p ;)

I am terrified of rattlesnakes even though I haven't encountered one in nature and know they are pretty timid. How close did you get? I would have rode away at lightning speed not taken a picture! They are interesting patterns.

I really think snakes are cool...granted, we don't really have scary ones here.

You're lucky you live in an area that the wildlife isn't dangerous...
No freakin way am i stopping to look at a dugite or tiger snake or king brown... THey can slither thier way & i'll just mind my own business...
That reminds me...must be careful around this time of year when doing the tree watering in the bush...:o
It's bad enough trying to avoid roos on some of our trails..nevermind snakes!!!

Fab photo.
The only things I ever come across this time of the year in England are snails and slugs but then again I am not very brave, so I think I will stick with those.

I was armed with my iPhone so I kept a respectful distance--maybe a couple of feet or so? I really should ride with a real camera with a zoom lens so that I can get clearer pictures with details. What was so interesting about my subject is that I watched one snake slithering across the road when I went by it. On the way back they both were curled up. I wonder if the one is a female with a clutch of eggs in her belly?
It won't be long and the tarantulas will be crossing the roads. Stay tuned for further developments. ;)

I saw this once on a ride in south Florida. I think I would've freaked about the snakes though!

I had a tarantula saunter right into the garage yesterday afternoon as I was trying to leave. Had to go catch it and release it into the wild (Backyard!)

Well they are venomous and pack quite a punch, though not enough to kill you in minutes like some of the snakes you have.
ETA: Neat find. I only see squirrels and deer.
