I'm surprised its taken this long to happen since I've been biking for 5-6 years now.
Last night I commuted to youth group/church on my bike. I came to a stop sign, put my foot down as there were other cars approaching the intersection. I took the lane, was clearly the first there, signaled a left turn and started to go. As I get to the middle of the intersection, a car to my right takes off! Seriously, the only thing I can think of is that he DIDN'T EVEN SEE ME.
Fortunately he just knicked my front tire, I didn't fall over. But scared the bahjeezus out of me! My kids sweet faces flashed before my eyes.
Crazy drivers. I think they are getting crazier every year.

Did the driver stop? Did you give him a talking to? Call the police?
Were you visible with hi-viz clothes, and lights?
I'm so glad you are okay.

It was still daylight, but I did have on high-vis vest and a commuter bag with reflective lights. And no, he did not stop. I looked him in the eye and he didn't even give an apologetic wave or look like he felt bad about it!

Wow, I'm glad you're okay.
I need to train myself to get license plate numbers in that kind of situation. I think maybe if I get in the habit of memorizing plates all the time, that I'll be able to do it when the adrenaline is high. Maybe.
AAHK, that's just crazy! What on earth was he thinking

Wow. So glad you are OK.
This is why I am scared to ride the roads around the house. I SEE how many idiots there are out there when I'm driving and surrounded by a ton of steel and reinforcing supports that protect in case of an accident. When it's just you on top of a handful of tubes and rubber it makes you keenly aware of how fragile life is.
DH normally takes the bus to work and coming home from work one day he nearly gets hit in the cross-walk. The driver had the NERVE to yell at him to watch where he was walking, when the driver just blew through a red light, so the idiots are everywhere!!

Ack! So glad you were OK! I'm shaky just reading that. Makes me wonder if drivers would be more careful if bike helmets were equipped with cameras to record stuff like this.
