Hello!
I don't think we have this thread yet, BUT, as we get to towards fall, I figure people might be thinking about goals for next year.
I am feeling pretty ambitious :-)
I am running a few half marathons this fall.
Jan 2011 I am running Disney marathon with friends.
May 2011 IM St. George
Nov 2011 IM Florida
And I think that's about enough!
Anyone else? Anyone going for their first tri next year? Anyone stepping up the distance for the first time?
My goal is to do at least two sprint tris next year.
I'm planning on the Topeka Tinman and the Chicago Tri. There's rumor that the Omaha triathlon may have a sprint distance next year as well.
If my running continues to go well I'd like to do a 5k or two just for fun.
I'm so excited for next year!

I did my first sprint this August and am planning either two sprints next year or a sprint and an Oly, along with several races between 5K and HM.

Sounds good, ladies!
Next year I'm doing another IM. It's been 4 years and I feel like I need to prove to myself that I'm not a "one hit wonder."
Other than that, just a few small tris leading up, and then another 24 hour running race in the fall.

I haven't really planned out my season yet but my goals for next year are:
Run my first marathon - hopefully Boston in April.
Complete my 1st HIM - Have not picked a race yet - looking at Providence 70.3 in July or a race in upstate NY the same weekend.
I like to try and do a race per month in the summer so probably a spring in May and June the HIM in July then an OLY either August or Sept (or both)

I've already registered for a triathlon in May 2011! It's the Columbia Triathlon and will be my first Oly (I failed to do my first Oly last year when I got Achilles tendinitis). I was planning to do an Oly next year but I wasn't planning to do one so early in the season, nor one so challenging!
The Oly I was planning on is in August and will be my A race for the year.
I'll start off the season with a sprint in May, 2 weeks before Columbia, and I'll end with a sprint at the beach when we're at our timeshare on September. I have no idea yet what I might do in June or July beyond my Tour de Cure ride in early June.

Well I still want to try my second tri. Not sure of schedule. Have a few running races planned: Gasparilla 15k & Peachtree road race."A" race is Pikes Peak Ascent in Aug.

Fall 2010 - marathon (90% likely to be the Seattle Marathon)
Spring 2011 - varying half marathons and shorter distances, and self-made semi-triathlons
June 2011 - IM CdA
July 2011 - Considering doing the Seattle to Portland (200mi ride)
Remainder of summer 2011 - varying olympic and sprint distance races
Not really anything different than I've done. I may look for a HIM for fall, if I can find something that fits the bill. I don't think I'm interested in back to back Ironman races, though Florida sounds nice (but I think it's pretty difficult to get into).

I had such a great season this year that I am going to repeat. I did a race a month from April through September, with some bike races thrown in on off weekends.
I did
2 road Oly
1 road du
2 Xterra Short course
1 Xterra long course....which was just about equal to a HIM with a finish time of 5:13. And I made the podium with that time. People were on the course for 7 hours.
Fall-three trail runnng races
I have an improved time goal for each race for next year. We have plans to travel more next summer, and I know that can travel and handle this training schedule.

IF I get the tendonitis in my foot healed I am planning a half marathon in Memphis (12/10) and Champaign (5/11).
I want to push my distance and do at least one Olympic and conquer the open water swim!

You all have me feeling like a total slacker!!!
This being my first year competing, the tri I do in October will be the 4th of the season.
For 2011, I'm looking at bettering my times all the way around, and a race a month from May to October sounds good. The longest I've done was a Sprint, and an Olympic distance sounds doable (not even looking up HIM online much less thinking about them!!)
I'm not much of a runner other than to finish a tri, so a couple of 5ks at the beginning of the year will probably happen.

Although I had contemplated what I might like to do next year, I really had no intention of actually planning anything until after Jan1, but one local race group likes to open their registration WAY ahead of the race dates and they tend to fill up very quickly. So, it was register now or don't race for the Columbia Oly.

The big kahuna for randonneurs: Paris-Brest-Paris.
ETA: Which, of course, has nothing to do with triathlon. :-) I'll try to stay in decent enough tri shape to knock out a couple of Oly events. I set a new PR this year (2:48) and would like to stay in shape to keep that up. But I won't do another HIM until 2012, I think.

My plan for 2011 is to repeat the three sprint tri's I did this year and add in one OLY and maybe one additional sprint.
Canby Gator Grinder - May
Blue Lake - early June
Pacific Crest OLY - end of June
Mid-Summer - end of July/early August
Scoggins Valley - early September
or
Black Hills OLY - early September
Maybe, maybe, maybe I'll do a run event or two early in the year as well - we'll see how the 'off-season' goes.

Canby Gator Grinder - May
Pacific Crest OLY - end of June
These 2 are on my to-do list also. I did the Oly at Pac Crest last year and the half this year. They are both REALLY hard. Far be it for me to tell you how to plan your calendar, BUT you might want to consider making Blue Lake in early June your 1st Oly instead of Pac Crest. Blue Lake is a great 1st Oly. The lake is calm (and not freezing cold like Wickiup), the bike course is flat and smoooooooth, and the run is flat too. Having a relatively "easy" course as your first Oly would be a huge confidence booster.
Pac Crest is tough. Wickiup is cold and choppy. And very hard to sight the swim. And its at 4300 feet or so. The bike course is hilly, and of course, at altitude. And the run, while having no hills per se, is definitely not flat. And, its at 4000+ feet of elevation. Oh yeah, and it's usually 90+ degrees. I know how much you like the heat. ;) I'm not suggesting you can't do it. I know you well enough to know that you can do whatever you set your mind to. I just think it's not the best course for a first time effort. In retrospect, I wish I'd chosen something closer to sea level for my first half-iron. Pac Crest took everything I had to complete it.

Current races on my calendar:
Nov 6, 2010: Chicago Hot Chocolate 15K
Jan 8, 2011: Disney Half Marathon
July, 2011: Sprint - not sure if I will do the Kenosha Danskin or something else
August 2011: Chicago Oly - a friend and I just agreed to train for this together.
All of the above is now dependent on how quickly I recover from the sprained ankle I sustained on the paddle tennis court this morning.

I thought about that too, but I really want to do the sprint at Blue Lake to have the comparison to 2010.
I know it'll be a challenge, but I really like that. I need something to get me excited and a little scared. Honestly, the OLY distance doesn't really phase me at all (except on the run and by then, I will be fine)...so the other challenging aspects of this race in particular will keep me on my toes. Otherwise, I might slack off thinking that it was in the bag, you know?
Besides, it was YOUR idea to make this my first OLY! :p
(and I prefer cold water!)
I love seeing everyone's plans for next year! makes me anxious to start putting more pen to paper myself.
So far I have
10km race in Feb
half marathon in April
half iron in June
Ironman end of Aug
I am hoping to add a sprint or Oly in there somewhere and there is another 1/2iron in July that is about 6weeks out of IM- I would like to do it but it might be a little close for me..
I really need to get back to some reg schedule I have been eating and eating and not exercising! Yikes! So it helps to start thinking about racing goals

I haven't signed up for anything yet. It all depends on the state of my blood clot and what the cardiologist will let me do.
IF I'm allowed to swim again I'll try to find at least one oly to do. If I'm not allowed to swim I'll look into trying some du's.
Either way I hope to be able to do SOMETHING.

I want to complete the NEMO Triathlon in September. It will be my first tri as an individual (last one was a team). I have secret wild dreams of finishing in 2 hours but more realistically my goals are:
1. To finish all 3 events, and
2. To match or beat our team time (2:28). I'm actually not sure how realistic this one is.

Yeah, well I won't know if I get in for a while.....so I can't really put it on my plan yet!
yikes!!
An acquaintance did this last year- is there only one? This one was in this area (BC)- Wow- the distances are impressive!! Her training days made me laugh ( and feel like a bit of a wimp)...12km swims followed by a marathon etc etc...all I can say is wow... I had a hard enough time fitting in the training for "just an IM" ohh you'll have to keep us updated! What a grand adventure..I hope you get in!!

I'm planning on:
Nov 2010: Chicago Hot Chocolate 15k
Feb 2011: (Maybe) Myrtle Beach Half Marathon
April 2011: (Maybe) Miami University Triathlon (sprint)
May 2011: Flying Pig Marathon
May 2011: Tri For Joe OR Morgans Canoe/Run/Bike again
Oct 2011: Morgans Canoe/Run/Bike
I am still figuring out where I will be going to school next year and when I will be starting, so I might be moving to Columbus by summer or to Chicago sometime during spring/summer/fall. So my race plans will likely change accordingly. :)

This past August we cheered a friend on at a local sprint tri. We decided it looked like fun and though we should give it a try in 2011. Yesterday I check on the registration for another local tri and low and behold registration started this morning at 12:01 AM. I signed up! Three other friends did as well. :D OMG! Now I have to start training for two tri. What was I thinking! I've never done anything like this before. I'll be visiting the Triathlon topics alot! :o bikerHen

Mulling over stuff for next year. Likely will do a couple of olympic distance duathlons in June and July. Sprint season starts Victoria Day; 2 more sprints after that then the Olympic Distance races
Our race series has been bought by WTC - so we'll have to see if they keep same format.
In the meantime - in order to improve - I have had a few assessments done. Apparently, I'm a little bit competitive :D.
Body fat analysis via the BodPod. I am 24.6% which for my age makes me "fit." I would like to get to "lean" - 22%.
I saw a nutrition person who just recommended a variation of what I do already - which was not helpful in losing weight this year. I saw another guy with Doctorate of Natural Medicine - he was more in tune with me. He has me following a Paleo diet in conjunction with The Zone. So I've given up dairy, legumes and all refined carbs. Potatoes are allowed as a recovery food after a hard workout. Dropped 5 lbs already. It's tough, but I feel fine.
Had a running gait analysis done. This was an eye opening - especially the view from the back. (ugh!) Left glute weakness++++++. Also, L leg is a bit extended on landing. And though I thought I ran pretty upright - it was noted I am a bit kyphotic. Good stuff to work on.
Left supraspinatous is torn. Rehabbing that.
Metabolic testing next Saturday. My next season official training begins November 1.
Trying a new saddle - though at this point it is the least of my worries.
Of course I have some time/speed goals for run and bike - I will refine those as I go along. Throw in a few road races along the way.
Let the fun begin!!

Spin! That stuff sounds so interesting. Paleo is fascinating (but as a vegetarian there is no way I would do it, but I think the idea is really cool).
I am interested to hear how the 5150 series goes too.

I am pretty sure that Boston cannot be a 1st marathon since you have qualify to even run it. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news!

Actually there are a number of charity spots available for Boston which don't require time qualification. I am hoping to run either for Dana Farber or Team-in-Training.

Anyone else? Anyone going for their first tri next year? Anyone stepping up the distance for the first time?
I'm stepping up the distance for the 2011 season - tackling the 70.3 (half-iron) which means running a half marathon...I am so NOT a runner so this is going to be a real challenge for me
So far this is my 2011 calendar:
Pacific Runner's First-Half - half-marathon, Feb 13, 2011
Mission 3 - super sprint, June 25, 2011
Great White North - half-iron, July 3, 2011
won't be able to get to too many more til the end of the season as I've got two weddings to attend as a bridesmaid!

YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So exciting!!!!!!!!!!!
I have mixed feelings. ;) It will be my first attempt at a two-Ironman season, but Florida is a nice flat race so it won't be as challenging as Coeur d'Alene anyway. The weather also wasn't bad, and I guess I'd rather travel to Florida than Arizona (though Florida has more humidity risk, Arizona can get windy). I'll likely switch my Thanksgiving 2011 marathon to an "in recovery" half marathon (3 weeks post IMFL another marathon would be entirely too ambitious).
I'm amazed at how long it took to sell out - I read that it just sold out a couple of hours ago.
I've decided no more triathlons for me--I hate the swimming that much.
So instead a friend and I are going to do the Great Greenbrier River Race Triathlon next year: 3 miles running, 4 miles flat kayaking, 10 miles cycling (run and bike are both on a rail-trail). Should be a fun day!
Now I just need to learn how to kayak. Well, I can move myself forward in a kayak, but I've never actually gotten started in one by myself before--there's always the rental guy helping set me up and push me off!

Now that we are actually getting closer to the season and I need something to think about other than all the snow I have started to firm up my plans more.
Current plans for 2011:
>April 18 - Boston Marathon - 1st Marathon, running with Team in Training to support the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
>June 4 - Escape the Cape Spring Tri - Sprint
>June 17 - Mass State Tri - OLY
>August 21 - Timberman 70.3 HIM (1st HIM distance)
I may also do another sprint early Aug between the OLY and HIM and am thinking either a sprint or 1/2 marathon in early May.
Anyone else?

Awesome! I'm chuckling that it's on the 18th again. That's my father's birthday. When we lived in Boston and it fell on his birthday one year, he joked with all this college budies in other cities that his whole company got the day off work BECAUSE it was his birthday (my dad was a VP at the time). They were all amazed at his power! He really floored him when he said that they were also running a marathon for him! :p
My plans for 2011 have expanded a bit. :o
Feb 5: Resolution Run 5K
May 7: Canby Gator Grinder sprint tri
June 4: Blue Lake sprint tri
June 25: Pacific Crest OLY (my first!)
July 11: volunteer at Rev3 Half Iron in Portland
July 31: Mid-Summer sprint tri
Aug 21: Scoggins Valley sprint tri OR Crater Lake Century
Sept 10: Warrior Dash
Oct: 16: Girlfriends Half Marathon
Plus I'll probably do a few practice midweek mini-tri's in July at Hagg Lake. I REALLY wanted to do Irongirl at Hagg Lake but it happens to fall on the same weekend as Pac Crest which is my 'A' race for the year.

Switched up my season some, but now I am officially registered for the big stuff!
IM St. George May
Rev3 Olympic Quassy June
Rev3 Full Cedar Point September
Rev3 Olympic October
There will probably be some smaller things in there (like finishing my recovery right now), but those are the key races, with Cedar Point being the A race for times!
