This afternoon I was out practicing my skills drills - slow bike handling and wheelies. I did them in the parking lot of the school about a mile from my house. On the way home I continued practicing wheelies in the street. A group of boys passed (maybe 8-9 years) when I was able to do a bunny hop. They went "Wow did you see what she did????" It was so funny but then I worried they might try it. I always preach to kids about the importance of helmets but I used to see people doing tricks like that I would want to try. Eeek!

I want to keep setting a bad example when I'm in my '80s. :D

That's fun. :) I wish I could do one of those slow wheelies, I'm still working on that trick.

DH does them all the time. A friend of ours saw him do and he tried to do one and landed flat on his back. It was hilarious. (He had a helmet on).

I was out riding single track and approaching a crooked narrow bridge. There was a group of kids on a field trip all sitting along the river's edge. As I rode over they all "oohed and ahhhed." I felt like Superwoman for a minute.

That's similar to how Clock broke her back.
Not very hilarious.

I am not trying to learn to ride with a wheelie, just lift the wheel up. Also we aren't learning the "power stroke" method which produces a higher wheelie but is also more dangerous. Our teacher is teaching us to rely on the rebound of the fork to get a wheelie only high enough to pull a wheel onto a curb. It is still hard stuff.

I won't cop to being your friend, because I never have been, unlikely to be ever one of the cool kids. I'll admire you with appropriat respect from afar.

Wow! Way to go!

Oooh fun :) You're making me jealous...but keep up the updates so I can live vicariously through you!

(mental note to sign up for lessons when I'm back on the trails...)
