View Full Version : September/October weight loss challenge
Possegal
09-06-2010, 07:46 PM
For 8 full weeks, this one actually goes to November 5th. Pretty soon I may need to set up a 7-week timeframe to get things back to two month challenges. :)
Let me know
(1) if you want to join in
(2) what your weight is on Friday the 10th of September
(3) what your goal weight is for 5 November - if you want to, if you don't want to set a goal like that, then no worries.
I'll post the link to the chart later in the week.

Count me in this time! I am actually trying to NOT lose much more weight, so this will help me to keep an eye on things. I have to keep building my mileage base for the next 4 weeks so this will help.
Put me down for 128 by October, that should be realistic and give me a little room to work with...

please count me in again. August went the wrong way and I need to get back on track. My weigh-in will be a little late this week, as I'm away on a field course until Sunday. I'll report back then.
Thank you again Possegal for keeping us all on track!

Oh, definitely count me in! I actually start a personal challenge on Friday that will take me up to Christmas Eve (15 weeks exactly), so the timing works perfectly for me.
I'll weigh in on Friday for my starting weight. Goal weight will be 145. :)

Glad to help folks! I renewed my commitment to tackling this weight on Tuesday. Emailed my sisters, said I know I sound like a broken record, but time to get myself in shape and develop some healthy habits. I've set out weekly changes. Rome wasn't built in a day, right? ;) This week was bringing a healthy lunch to work and not eating out or skipping a lunch. Next week will be eating a healthy dinner too. Then getting an hour of exercise the next week. Not that I can't start those things sooner, just giving myself some leeway to not get all on track right away. Plus, dealing with some lung inflammation that I'm hoping goes away without steroids, so the exercise thing can wait a bit (other than walking more).

Possegal, we cannot thank you enough for your time and effort to keep this going!
I just weighed in at 129.8... I swear that I am eating enough but the weight keeps going. Am going to meet with a nutritionist at my club to figure out how to do this properly. I don't want to be at my target weight of 128(.9) the second week of the challenge! I do NOT go hungry, not by any stretch of the imagination.
Then again, I haven't been this light in probably 30 years - so I probably shouldn't be complaining :) Long distance cycling does burn a lot of calories...

Here is the link folks - let me know if it isn't working. Still have all the names from last time on there and I will clean that up in a week or so, after people have a chance to chime in about giving it another go this challenge. (easier to wait and delete than retype, yeah, I'm that lazy! :) )

Posse, if it is ok, just go ahead and change my goal to 125. My weight last night was 129.8.
Thanks! I talked with my trainer today and he thinks that things are going well - he thinks that I am becoming leaner as opposed to losing muscle. As much weight as I've lost, almost all of my body fat seems to be centered around my abdomen - even at 20% body fat it is quite noticeable. It would be good for my overall health if I could lose more of that...

Posse gal, thanks for continuing to do this. I will stay on board with the weekly check-in, - it helps me stay focused, even though I am hovering around my goal weight now. Put me down for 111.2 today and a goal of 109.
Our love of biking can help us through to our goals- mine has helped me lose 26 pounds since last July, and maintain my weight since May.

I have lost 30 pounds and am still over 25% body fat, but am still losing weight. I also have a large amount of fat in my abdomen area, and am hoping it redistributes over time. I started biking 6 months ago at the age of 49 and love it. Karen

OK, I disappeared ... last post was August 16, 2009, (hence my post title). My last 13 months have been, well, to say the least, life changing.:( I need to really get "my life" back and a bit of weight loss will help. My riding has taken a hit, but I know I'll get back on track there too.
On Sept 10th my weight was 145, my goal by Nov 5th is to break into the 130s. Don't care where in the 130s, just somewhere.
I can't wait to start digging back thru some of the thread again, I've missed checking in.;)

41 months ago my oldest sibling was diagnosed with stage 3b lung cancer. It has a median survival of 23 months. (so she's kicking its butt!). In the early months, when we all felt so unbelievably helpless, we did several things to try and alleviate that feeling. (one was forming our Livestrong Challenge cycling/running team). The other was to buy and wear these bracelets that say "Expect Miracles" on them. I ordered a batch of them (two different styles) and then had to take some pictures to send around to the family and friends, so they could see them and decide what one they wanted. My cat Bailey (who has since died of cancer himself) modeled the thinner bracelet for everyone, and also to show his support for my sister. :) That pic still makes me smile, despite all the 'cancer' talk in the story that goes along with it.

After 2 months of maintaining around 111-112, my weight has jumped up to 115. I know I didn't eat 10,000 extra calories since last week..
I am following a training plan to get ready for a century ride, with lots of miles, and intervals. I'm eating more to keep up with fueling for the rides, but I am convinced I'm seeing water retention from the increased stress on my muscles (not to mention feeling.
I have one more week with intervals, then a recovery week- when I hope to see that number come back down. I'm not panicking yet.

That sounds a reasonable assumption, I noted that when I was still training for my brevet, before my hamstring problem put a temporary stop to my long rides. You could also be adding muscle as well.

Thanks for the chart,

Holding steady at 151.
And, after trying on about 40 pairs of jeans, I am definitely into a size 8! The first time ever in the single digit sizes. I am ECSTATIC! :D

Ok a couple of weekends ago was Thanksgiving and I ate everything I wasn't supposed to. I didn't gain any weight even though there was pie and turkey and pie and potatoes and pie and veggies and pie and pie. You see the theme here! :D
This week I was so good I tried to make up for my pie weekend, and I have gained a pound this week! I am 147. Maybe a pound isn't a huge deal but really? It's been 11 days since my last slice of pie!

Trek is correct, jump on in anytime. :) Just give me a weight for tomorrow and a weight for the final week, which is of course next week, but still no worries about jumping in now.
If you'd rather wait, sometime in the next couple weeks I'll start a thread with the title November/December weight loss challenge - and you can post to that and sign on up.
Lots of great support and inspiration on this thread!

130 pounds this week - still :D I am happy with this considering I have been unable to truly exercise in more than a month do to this *&$# leg.
I will continue to the next challenge with the same goal from this one. I will re-sign up on the new thread when it comes out. I really need the accountability of doing this - and thanks to Possegal for all of her work!

And if DH hadn't dragged me out to dinner last night, complete with wine, 3 courses and a yummy profiterole for dessert, I might have made my goal this morning :) But I'm not complaining.

mmmmm, what a delightful way to not reach your goal though :) Sounds like you had fun! I am going to have to look up what this "profiterole" might be though...

It's worth mentioning that we have a Dessert Clause in our marriage: DH does not share dessert. I have to order my own. And unfortunately the profiterole's come in three's. I couldn't let them go to waste.

I did look them up, I have a friend that makes cream puffs from scratch - the name I am accustomed to. You certainly don't want them to go to waste :D That sounds like a pretty good Dessert Clause, I LIKE that one!

Possegal--thanks again for organizing the challenge and charting it for us!
I won't be weighing in this week. I have a race on Saturday and it's a mini-getaway for DH and I. I don't think I would be upset about a number on the scale, but at the same time, I don't want to give myself an opening to second-guess myself this weekend.
Great job everyone and I'll definitely be in for the next challenge.

still 170.2, and that's not likely to change. Also (and nobody else needs to do this or chart this) I arbitrarily chose a spot somewhere in the middle to declare as my waist and it's 42". Regardless of the weight I'm focussing on inches.
Thanks, Possegal.

So weird- gained 3 or 4 lbs when I was really "training" hard....and when I overdid it and had to cut way back on riding, I've just about returned to my starting weight.
Of course, I'd much rather not have to be almost sidelined with this unpredictable hip issue :-(
