Calling all the northern California members! Come introduce yourself!
Updating the news on this ride I'd originally planned to help the newbies take a next step and generally have a good time. "No drop" is the motto for the day but with 3 lengths and one little hill to choose from one and all should find some fun. I really hope we can get more local riders out that we haven't met before.
The Loops
1) Winters and back (@34 miles) and I'm guessing a pace below 14 mph - Have 1 newbie coming that I know of. I'm planning to lead.
2) To Winters around Lake Solano (@43-50 miles) and a pace of 14-15 mph or so -- Have 1 rider bumping up her distance. I think Petunia is leading but she seems to have dates mix-up issues so I'm waiting to hear.
3) To Winters and over Cantelow (maybe 56-60 miles) - Pace 15-16 mph and maybe faster. Need to confirm a leader and sweep or even if anyone is interested.
Ready to ride at 9 AM
Meet at Common Grounds Coffee House (http://www.smartpages.com/sp/maps/maps.jsp;jsessionid=TQWB0APFOWP1JQFI4ECA4CQ?linkType=13&impressionId=0&listingId=47338589&id=47338589) in south Davis
Post ride meal at Dos Coyotes.
Any volunteers? I'm hoping Yellow and Killer Bea are coming but Yellow is packing! Boo-hoo!
PS - This ride will also be posted at www.amiciveloci.org if you have non-TE friends who are interested.

Sadiekate - this sounds like fun. Wish I could make it but my husband (terribly inconsiderate of him) is going overseas with work for a month. Exit husband exit baby sitter. Im going to be hard pressed to get many rides in this next month I fear but thats life I guess.
Hope I can make it to a ride one day and get to meet some of you inspiring girls. :)

I keep telling him "you know your job is interfering with my riding." :D
He said he will let the USAF know. :D

Thanks!
MelodyGreat, Melody! A new face!
Pace to me means the speed we'll probably travel out on the open country roads - not the average speed from start to finish -- but this is a total guesstimate on my part. We are a friendly group and absolutely no one gets dropped.
All 3 groups will ride together through town/campus before we hit the open country so you can always change which group you want to ride with. Who knows, we may all stick together all the way to Winters before breaking apart. It was nice of the transportation planners to give us so many convenient road options.

Wow - I'd love to do a long flat ride - seems all I've been doing is riding hills lately, getting ready for the Bike Against the Odds on 10/9...
I'm signed up to do the training ride for the BAO 30-mile route this Sunday with Cindy, so I won't be able to join you - darn it!
So many rides, so little time! I hope you guys have a wonderful time! I'd really like to do the next flat ride with you all (there will be another one, won't there?)

Hello all-
you might have another newbie joining you. :) This sounds like a lot of fun, and I like the idea of a flatter ride for one of my first long ones. I have been doing about 20-25 mile loops near Palo Alto, but have been avoiding the BIG hills still. Is anyone else thinking about coming from the peninsula/south bay that would be interested in carpooling?

Unless we have some kind of weird geologic event here, YES! Well, we all know what that would be here in the fault zone! Let's hope Davis stays nice and flat, and the Oakland hills stay nice and hilly, and the bay stays in the bay! (Katrina's got me a little overly-sensitized to natural disasters! My office-mates and I are talking about getting cheap mtn bikes to keep here in our SF office - when the "big one" hits and the bridges go down, we can ride all the way around the bay to get to our homes in the East Bay!)

Sounds good to me SadieKate! I rode this last weekend with HillSlug and she had metioned to me that I am stronger then I admit!! :D So I might opt for #3. I ride here in the foothills so a nice long flat ride is what I need to break the hill routine!
See you Sunday!

I would love to ride with y'all....but 2 things going on.....
I have tickets to the Sacramento Monarch's WNBA Final's basketball game which starts at 1. So that means tailgate starting at like 11 :D . Melody, you know I love basketball.....
And after the game I have to go to work, :( I just hate how work interferes with my personal time.....
And, yes, Melody is a much stronger rider than she says, she rides in Auburn for goodness sake....Cantelow, not a prob for her!!!! ;)
The ride from Woodland last weekend was a nice "little" ride. The sun finally came out just before we got to Winters, thank goodness. The weather should be a little warmer this weekend though....Have fun grrls!!!!!

Over at www.amiciveloci.org, the MadCyclist posted that he is in for the #3 loop over Cantelow. He's hoping to find some companions for this ride.
SK
PS - He recently got his USA Cycling Coach certification and is one nice guy.

Weeeell... I'm seriously considering giving the Sunday BAO training ride a miss (soryy Cindy!) and heading up to Davis - the more I think about it, the more a longer flat ride sounds great... Except for the Monterery ride with AG, all I've been riding is hills hills hills! (And I'm no SadieKate!)
So once I work out my schedule, I'll confirm, but I think I'd like to try loop #2.

(And I'm no SadieKate!)BZ, since yellow just pointed out a discrepancy in my climbing statistics I just had to revise my numbers upwards. I am MORE than ready for a nice flat ride.
Cindy, once the winter fog sets in here I'll be coming down your way for rides!

2 more happy items of note:
1) Robb just said he'd brighten our day.
2) I should have the full size prints of the AV jersey design to show everyone. Just got the news from Voler. Hope they got it all right and I don't take one look at it and start screaming. :o

Turns out I have some work/school stuff that I HAVE to get done this weekend, so probably shouldn't drive all the way out to Davis to ride. Will have to stick closer to home, but still planning on doing a longer ride, and maybe some bigger hills
Hope to meet you all some other time.

Well, based on Melody's avatar, I think I'll need to take a break from packing to join y'all!
If Petuny doesn't come I'd be happy to lead or sweep the #2 loop. Or I can sweep #3 loop. I guess we can wait and see who wants to do what??

Yep, Miss Petunia still has a bum leg.

Okay, I'm in. Would opt for #3 as I'm doing metrics this month - contest with a fellow I am crewing for the Furnace Creek 508 race.
Cantilew? I keep hearing about this? What about this hill anyway?

Hi, Nancy. Cantelow is the one and only hill near Davis. "Near" being 25 miles away. Remember when we rode north up Pleasants Valley Rd from Vacaville to Lake Solano? The hills to your right are the English Hills and Cantelow Rd bisects them east/west.
Not a long climb and throws a bump into an otherwise flat course.

Hey SK - I'm in for ride #2, on my new wheels!
I'm presuming there will be places along the way to get water and such - maybe near the turn-back spot for ride #2 - is that the case?
Thanks for organizing this!

From the Mountainous Region: Fast Eddie is planning on coming but still no definitive answer from Killer Bea (she's playing nice hostess this weekend).
SadieKate
09-16-2005, 09:23 AM
Wondered if Ed might be tempted. I left a mssg for Killer Bea last night but I think she needs some down time from being hostess with the mostest.
OT - the new avatar - Is that puppy abuse or good training? Or both? "Mom, you're making me wear a hat!!! And, then there's fire coming out of that food! While I'm a Lab even I know that fire isn't edible." :D

Lesseee...by my accounting we had SK (ride leader extraordinaire), her DH Bubba, Fast Eddie, Killer Bea, the Mad Cyclist, Robb, Bike Goddess, Shadon, MelodyLynn, BikerZ, and myself. Did I miss anyone?
Thanks for setting up the ride and making it happen, SK. It was a great day, as it always is with this group. I didn't have my camera so no pictures from me. Come to think of it I didn't see any cameras at all. So you may have to live with narratives.
It was neat to meet Z and Shadon and Melody. Z and I rode together on the Lake Solano Loop; it was really neat to chat with her and get to know her. By the end of our 46-ish miles both our butts were hurting as neither one of us is a flats-ridin' kind of gal. ;) We rode a short portion back with SK and Shadon. SK nearly got taken out by a small child that couldn't stay left on the bike trail  and I think Shadon is probably surfing the 'net right now deciding what bike she's going to go buy!
I got some good practice with my new aero bars so I'll be able to hurt myself even more during the next tt (my last for the year, I believe). Thanks, gals (and guys) for what will probably be my last TE Nor Cal Division ride. I sure will miss y'all :( :( :(

Well, I've had a nap and I just had to come on and give all of you a public shout out! Thank you all! So much for making my first group ride so nice! I learned so much and met so many nice people!
I'm sore....but it felt so good to push a bit. and in fact, I am beginning to feel better already.
You folks, SadieKate, Melody, BikerZ,Yellow, Bikegoddess all ROCK!
'specially BikerZ who came to SF to get me! and SadieKate who rode with me!
Amazing.

Nice group today! Shadon and I had a lovely ramble through the orchards and I think she'll be buying a zippy road bike any day now. Yellow and Z spun around the lake and did what I do so many days -- trained their posteriors to sit for hours on the saddle. Welcome to my world of the flatlands.
The rest of the group, including Melody and Nancy, rode the said flatlands out to the area's one and only "hill," a 1 mile 8.3% grade. I think this was Melody's big "next step" and she rode 59 miles and about a 1,000 ft of climbing. Good job!

That was so fun!
I had a really great time riding with Sue, and then back into town chatting with Shadon and SadieKate. Melody and I rode out to Winters together, and I really enjoyed hearing about the local agriculture and landscape. She blew me away - we rode along there at a pretty zippy clip (for me) and THEN she took off and rode the extra distance AND hills - awesome!
The whole group was a lot of fun - I feel really fortunate to to get to ride with such experienced riders who are so patient and willing to share their expertise with a newbie! A million gracias to Sarah and Bubba for taking such good care of us and hosting such a fun day!

I too had fun :) That Tim guy was the fast one in our group. He did Cantilew, the steep hill, 3 times one side, 1 time the other side. I watched him as he danced up the hill the 1st time. Little squirrel that guy- fast and fun!
I spent some time riding with Killer Bea- so I got to know her a little better. Sorry I didn't get to talk with Sue (Yellow) since this is her last ride with the group. YOU will be missed! I'll bet you'll love the snow in Utah! It's supposed to be 1st class! :D :D
I'm not a flatland rider either, so I was glad to get back to our cars. And, Sadie Kate really is the "hostess with the mostest"! Thank you so much for organizing this and being so patient. You are the BEST the BEST! :p :p
Thanks to Bubba, too. He was so great to bring up the rear!
RE Ed- yep, a fast guy! Must be that altitude where he lives!
Anyway, it was a great opportunity to connect with you all and to meet some new faces! :D :D :D

Anyone missing some sunglasses? Shadon, was it you who was looking?
I did loose some sun glasses...but later, after I got home and had a nap, it occured to me that maybe I left them in the bathroom at Dos Cayotes. Mine were 20 dollar cheapies that I got at REI...if those are them, keep them around for someone to use in a pinch!
