I have been using Shimano spd pedals for a few years now and I have no problems getting in or out of them, on my road bike or mtn bike. I am considering getting a new bike (well I really want it, my partner is considering!) and the shop, Rodriguez in Seattle, always recommends Speedplay Frogs. I tried some on the test bike in the trainer today and had a lot of problems getting clipped in and when I clipped out sometimes it started to clip out but then something would get hung up, like something was caught. Possibly the shoes and pedals I were trying were worn. I'm wondering if anyone has had this problem? Do you think it's just a matter of learning something different from my spd's? I have always read that Frogs are so easy to get in and out of, so I feel spastic not being able to do it with ease today.

If you're fine with SPD clips - I don't think there's any reason for you to switch to speedplay frogs. Probably you just weren't used to the system...
I use speedplays, but I didn't like spds....

If it was Smiley pushing the Frogs... well, just be aware Smiley is a little overbearing at times. (and doesn't always fit women correctly, but that's a topic I covered in some other thread)
If you like SPD's and they work well for you, there's no reason to change. Regardless of what anyone at R+E has to say about it.

A lot of bike shops push Speedplays and a lot of people like them. I went from spd's to Speedplay Light Actions trying to fix a hot foot issue. They helped but I was never really happy with the Speedplays for several reasons. I always had trouble finding the right pedal and getting clipped in. I ride a lot of country roads and I had to be very careful not to get dirt in the cleats or I couldn't clip in or out. The cleats are also very slick to walk in. I changed to the Time ICliqs a few weeks ago and really like them.

I got a good fit from Smiley and went with the Frogs -- they're my first clipless, so I've never tried anything else -- so maybe it's all about what you're used to. Smiley definitely has his opinions, but ultimately it's your bike and you should have it built up so that you are comfortable (and safe!) with the components.
Frogs are nice for their recessed cleats and degree of float, if you are concerned about that. But if you are happy with your SPDs, I don't see why you should make a change.
