I was made aware of this (http://www.etsy.com/listing/50887599/skirt-garterclip-for-biking?ref=v1_other_2) today.

Find out where to get those clips and you could easily make your own.

"spandex is not a fashion statement."

Yeah, I didn't realize it was. Anyone who thinks we wear spandex for looks doesn't get it. Hipsters kinda annoy me. They can keep their crappy PBR, I'll keep my spandex.

Or, you could tie your skirt over your head. That would work. ;)

Nah, you don't annoy...that anyone would think we wore spandex for fashion's sake is the annoying bit.

I was just trying to show the garter.
There was a prior thread about skirt wearing technique.
I rarely wear spandex and don't care if anyone else does.
She's merely trying to sell a product to women who wear skirts.

what is (crappy) PBR? I think the skirt clip/garter thing is kind of clever. My commute is so long that my poor work clothes would be smelly and soaked in sweat though. so spandex it is! Tokie

PBR = Papst Blue Ribbon = cheap beer that is in vogue amongst hipsters

I'll agree - the creator of the skirt keeper is a bit snotty.... its not a bad idea, but certainly not the best way to sell it to this type of crowd - then again I get the feeling we are not generally her target audience.

Cute idea. I'm glad that there are people coming up with solutions. My problem is full skirts. They blow everywhere, and if they have any length at all, they get caught in the wheel. Keep the web finds coming Zen.

I think these are the clips she used:

The band looks like undergarment elastic. I've seen it at JoAnn's Fabrics.

Thanks for sharing, Zen. I wore a skirt yesterday for the first time while commuting. These would have been handy!

Hey, I feel sexy wearing spandex shorts, don't burst my bubble ;)

The garter was kinda cute and a smart idea. But it's funny - without garter the skirt looked fine and decent and not very short, with garter I got the ooh-lala sexy underwear associations. Just goes to show, it's not how much skin you show, it's how you show it.

I'm not sure one clip would hold a skirt in place, especially if it's full. But at least someone is trying to answer a problem of skirts blowing around and getting caught. ;)

One could always wear cycling shorts (padded or not) underneath). I suppose it all depends on distance, pace, and amount of wind expected.

For long full skirts, my favorite is to reach between my knees, pull the back of the skirt to the front and tuck it in the front of the waistband. Instant Aladin!

I recently saw something that looks like a magnet you use to stick your skirt to the top tube to keep it from flying up. Two problems, what if you don't have a steel bike, and I doubt it will stay in place when you're getting off the saddle to stop etc.

Malkin, I think your idea is the simplest and most elegant :D

i like the magnet idea. i think if i wore skirts more i would sew a small pocket in my favorite and put the magnet in the pocket then i wouldn't lose it.

i need to at least pretend i look sexy in spandex. and super-hero-esque

If you made a DIY magnet pouch and used one of those super strong but tiny earth magnets I bet it would work!

I like my spandex! It's comfy and makes me feel like a "real" cyclist. I also like to wear skirts over it for fun :D
