Trek 7.6 FX, decision made

I've been at a quandary over Stella, my Trek 7.6 FX (2010). It has become obvious since spending a small fortune on The Wanderer to get him to fit me that Stella just is too long for me. Not that I can't ride her, but it hurts me to ride her more than short distances... The Wanderer has proved to me that it doesn't have to be that way.

I have considered spending more on her to see if we can get her to fit - but I have decided on another route. I am going to sell her and use the money to start a Luna savings account :)

I will post tonight in the appropriate thread with pics but wanted to mention here that I've finally made up my mind. I am hoping I can sell her, she only has 350 miles on her!

You're making my Avail cower in fear that she will be next!

That realization that your bike (which you probably still have a soft spot for) won't quite do what you want without spending a lot of money...it's bittersweet, isn't it? On the one hand, you've got a bike with sentimental value. On the other...new bike!

BF still has a soft spot for his old Giant. He sold it to a fellow Boy Scout and bought his beloved Cannondale.

Hopefully Stella will find a nice home with someone she fits, and you have the beginnings of a new Luna!

Sometimes letting go is the best thing you can do. Someone will get a great bike and you will get to move on. :) My BF had a mid-90's Schwinn mtb that he got as a kid and was attached to, but he was wanting to get into actual mountain-biking and this bike really wasn't much good offroad. It had lived in a garage, and was in great shape. He sold it via Craigslist for not-much-money last year to another grad student who needed a way to get around (who it turned out didn't seem to know many details about bike riding--BF gave him a quick tutoring session in gear-shifting :cool:), and put that money towards a more functional mtb.

I'm planning to make my own Trek FX into my daily commuter, which begs the question of whether to sell my mixte (which doesn't fit me well, but boy is it fun to have), which had been my commuter, and another student could probably get good use out of it rather than it collecting dust with me. But it's in such great shape and I just hate to let it go. I'm thinking about moving it to my parents' house for leisurely rides around the neighborhood with them, so I wouldn't have to plan in advance and haul a bike on the off chance they want to go for a ride, but then I wouldn't get to admire it every day like I do normally! :p I'm selfish, what can I say.

I love my Satellite but I'm drawn to the idea of having a custom bike someday and I'm dreaming of starting my own Luna savings account... it seems like a logical transition to eventually move from a satellite to the moon, no? ;)

Catrin, I don't think you will regret this decision. I was in the same situation with my Trek Pilot. It's amazing how attached you get to a bike, isn't it? She and I had been through a lot together and I had spent many hours riding her before I came to the same realization that she was just too big for me.

I don't have one regret getting my Luna and you won't either. The first time you sit on your new bike you will know exactly what I'm talking about.

My Pilot now has a good home and rides with me sometimes. I'm hoping the new owner enjoys her as much as I did.

Thanks everyone! There is a sentimental attachment to this bike since it is the one I learned to ride on. It is bittersweet, but it feels like the right move.

Poor Avail, Owlie you might want to ride her so she will calm down :D

I like your strategy, Catrin. As BikeChick said, you won't regret starting your Luna account.

I remember all my bikes, although I've only sold one, I think. They are all still in my memories, and each one took me on great rides.

The 1982 Univega Gran Turismo that took me through France fully loaded when I was just 15...abandoned in a move (I was young and dumb and thought I would go back for it).

1984 Fuji racing bike--my first ever racing bike--stolen! I left it in the back yard unlocked--still young and dumb.

1985 Stumpjumper - I still have this one. It was a near-top of the line MTB in it's day. Now it's a 30-lb fully lugged steel framed very retro bike.

1986 Centurion Facet--sold for $400, I think. That was a nice bike. I can't remember why I sold it.

1989 Bridgestone MB2 - another abandoned bike. I was not young when I abandoned it in 2000, but I guess I was still dumb. I always thought I'd go back for that one, too, but it was not to be.

1983 Vitus - crashed and broke in 2003. That crash meant I needed to get a new bike...and so I got a Luna, which I still have (and expect to have for a long, long time!)

2003 Jamis Coda Comp -- was my long-haul (28 miles RT) commuter bike for four years. I still have it. It's my errand bike now.

2005 Luna Eclipse - see 1983 Vitus

2008 Bike Friday Pocket Rocket Pro - I ain't getting rid of this one any time soon, either.
