This may seem a small thing, but it was big for me and since I've put my other milestones here I thought that I would add this one.

Yesterday I rolled my bike down the loooong gravel drive of the house that I am "house sitting" for the week without the slightest idea of where I was going! This was deliberate :) I rode 55.5 miles Saturday but it didn't feel like I had been on the bike at all (outside of a small saddle soreness) and a recovery ride seemed called for.

So I just turned the bike in a new direction out of their drive and just started riding. Eventually I found myself on a marked ride by my LBS so I just followed it for a ways, then eventually made my way back for a 20 mile ride.

It was a great ride - and the greatest part was being able to relax and enjoy the scenery without stressing over what I might run across on an unknown route. At some point I had a flashback of last December/January when I was relegated to practicing riding in a parking lot in the cold and wondering if I would EVER be able to really ride.

I've still a lot to learn on the bike - and that process probably never ends, but I am so glad that I made the leap and started in the middle of the winter because that gave me a little jump on the riding season.

Good for you, Catrin! Isn't it rewarding to see how far you've come:D

Isn't it fun to just cruise "with no particular place to go"?

This is exactly where I am now. Hopefully a year from now I'll have lots of milestones to report :)

Yay, Catrin!! Congrats on just going out and finding a ride on the fly. Sometimes those are my most favorite rides! ;) You've come a long way, baby!

:D It is indeed a beginning - and Roadtrip just hang in there and you will get there as well :)

I am still a little slow at starting up, but that is ok. It keeps me off of congested roads that I shouldn't be riding yet anyway - and doubt that I would find them fun

Have you checked out the Cincinnati Cycle club? They have some good beginner rides.

Good for you! I'm a planner--I always have to check out the route beforehand or at least part of it, and always looking for not-busy roads.

Yes. Checked out the website and gathering information. At the moment riding down to the corner and back is the first milestone I'm reaching for.

Good for you Catrin! Thanks for inspiring to maybe make me want to try that someday. I'm a planner like Owlie when it comes to the road. Hopefully one of these days I'll get the courage :)

First of all WOW 55.5 miles! That's so amazing to me, and then to ride the next day?!

I love that feeling of new discovery, I'm so glad you got to cruise around and enjoy yourself. It sounds wonderful :)

I am a long-range transportation planner by trade - I can get down right obsessive about planning so it is good for me to do things like this :D

It was delightful - and believe me, 3 months ago I was happy if I was able to ride 13 miles! The more you ride, the better you like it, so the more you ride. At least that is what happened to me ;)
