Story:
On the way to destination I noticed no staining. My 520 (Brooks equipped) sat chained up out in the heat for a couple of hours.
I got on. Rode home. Staining occured heavily on my khaki capris. Me. Sooooooo angry. (note: it has never been rained on. only treated with Proofide and has been, well...babied.) I like things simple, so having to baby this saddle is starting to tick me off. It's comfortable enough, but I'm tempted to get another Specialized Lithia and call it a day. I'm scared to ride this saddle in regular shorts now. Shouldn't be that way at all, in my opinion.
Any of you ladies have thoughts on this matter?

Oh, that stinks!
Is it a black saddle? Did it make a black stain or a greasy stain on your khakis?
Maybe give it a vigorous rub with a rag?

It is a black saddle it left a stain. A dye stain. Some of the actual dye leeched from the saddle onto my pants. I'm furious. Grrrrrr. It will not come out. I don't know what to do.

And that's exactly what you should do.
Life is too short to burden yourself with a saddle that doesn't make you happy.
Sell the Brooks here on TE, and buy a Specialized Lithia.
I'm serious.

Neither have any of mine.
But then you and I live where it doesn't get very hot.
(WE'RE hot, but the weather isn't) ;)

I don't think Moderncyclista should try to sell something she believes to be defective. Bad karma.
What are the chances, Modern, that some cyclist-hater type saw your bike parked in the sun and pulled a prank by putting some kind of black dye all over your saddle? Like the shoe polish-on-the-binoculars-eyepiece prank.
If not, I'd certainly write to Brooks and let them know about the problem. You might get reimbursed for the shorts and a new saddle with better dye.

Did you Proofide it recently? I read here (http://www.sheldonbrown.com/leather.html) that black Brooks + Proofide can cause problems.
My black Brooks has slowly discolored a pair of khaki shorts that I wear frequently. A good soak overnight in Oxy-clean lightened things up considerably.
I agree that life is too short to be unhappy with this. Leather products in general require more maintenance than modern synthetics. If you're not into that sort of thing, then you should stick with what works for you.

heh, that's right Sheldon Brown. I read that some years ago!
