I did a club ride today for the first time in awhile.
The weather is brutal again; predicted highs in the low '90s and high humidity. I questioned my sanity to do a ride that started at 10:00 AM, but, since it started 5 miles from my house, I went.
I went with the "fast" group (relative, this is a social group, but some great riders) on a 38 mile hill ride through Acton, Boxborough, Harvard, Bolton, and Lancaster (and back through Harvard and Littleton). Since the faster riders don't have the poor group riding skills of some of the others, I stayed in the middle of the group. That is until I got to the hills. There were many, and only one was a hill I had never met before. I would find myself up with the first five riders pretty quickly! I guess we had a lot of people from the city today... they die on the hills. I even had 2 women ask if they could stay beind me on a climb, but after I said yes, I looked back and they weren't there. Of course, my wimpy descending skills puts me back a bit, but I was able to stay with the front group most of the time. We stopped at Bolton Orchards for a snack and bathroom break and I ate an extra Shot Block along with my Luna Bar. Good thing, because by the next stop, in Harvard center, I felt a little weird... ate my last shot Block and dumped half my water bottle (then refilled it) down my bra, which got a comment of "I've never seen a woman do that!" It was from a guy I went through AMC leadership training with, so I know him pretty well. Since we were within 12 miles of the end, I got a second wind, flew up the hills on the way back, but I am exhausted. I didn't stay for the group lunch at a restaurant, since it was 2 PM and I wanted to get home. I'm also a little more tanned than usual. Not a burn, but I feel like I've been at the beach.
Rest tomorrow.
