On Wed (July 28) I was wearing my sweats and a jacket over it to stay warm at 11:00AM. The high for the day didn't even get near 70F (21C).

And today Friday and 2:30PMish now supposed to be near the hottest part of the day. And again, I'm wearing my sweats. Shorts is just too cool. I don't mind not having seen the sun since May or so. Well I have seen it peek through the clouds on some of the days in the late afternoon. But this continued cool temp is maddening. My veggie garden is a disaster. Nothing to show.

Where do I live. I live near the beach less than a mile from the water in Los Angeles area, Hermosa Beach. We get the marine layer (fog) all the time. On a normal year the marine layer burns off by 11:00AM during the height of June gloom. At other times of the year we are not supposed to get much of it. This year, it's been continuous since May and it hasn't burnt off. It was much warmer in January and February. go Figure?

Nice and cool though. I guess mother nature is prepping me for my relocation to Portland Or. I actually can't wait. jettison my Cal plate off my Prius and slap on Ore. plate... :D

already looking for my new training route. Might like to ride up to Government Camp on Mt Hood H'way. seems beautiful as long as I don't get flattened out into a pancake by some idiot car driver. :D

So how do I move 10 cats, 2 dawgs, and 3 chicken?? Not to mention all the stuff!! No I will not bar-b-que my chicken as one of my male friend have suggested.

What's up with the wacky weather??

When are you moving to Portland?

My DH are taking a trip to Oregon in September. Two nights in Cannon Beach and three in Portland. We're going to do a lot of hiking. I can't wait. Many of my well travelled friends rank it very high on their list of prettiest places.

Good luck moving the kitties!

You know, my dad was telling me about the "worst weather in 30 years" today. He lives in San Diego, not right on the beach, but fairly close to downtown. The June gloom is lasting all summer, the marine layer is not lifting. He said there hasn't yet been a warm night. It's warm or hot just a few miles inland, which is a normal pattern for June, but not August.
I wonder what is causing this?

I have the Weather Channel app on my phone and I set it up so that the "home" page displays all the places where my family lives -- Northern Virginia (me), Long Island, Connecticut, Nevada and Southern California. All summer long I've been confused because the temperature in SoCal has been so much lower than it's been everywhere else.

However I also have Dublin on the home page because a friend lives there -- and fwiw your weather is still warmer than it is there.

I have weather.com set to Austin, Red River, NM and Seattle. Red River just got back from and Seattle I have my heart set on living someday! Kind of depressing to have RR and Seattle right now, the weather is way better than the blistering heat we are having.

Here, it's the opposite. End of July (that's like January to all you northern hemisphere dwellers), and on Wednesday I rode in cycling shorts and a short-sleeved jersey. I threw on wool socks as a nod to the season.

I had to fly from San Diego to Daytona Beach about three weeks ago. When I left home it was in the high 60s mid-morning. When I landed in Daytona at 2am (weather delays in Atlanta), it was in the low 90s. The following day the heat index was 104.

Yesterday I was down at Mission Beach where my daughter has Junior Lifeguard training and I'm training for the upcoming TriRock in September. It was 80 degrees according to a gauge I saw on one of the buildings, but it was gray and breezy and everyone but me was bundled up in sweats. I love this weather. It's 80, people, not 50. No need for sweats, really.

Ah, summer.
