I accidentally stumbled upon an application for a smart phone. It's an amazing app that keeps track of distance traveled, average speed, maximum speed, start time, end time, total time, calories burnt, maximum pace, average pace, total climb and total descent. By clicking on the analyze tab, you can look at split times during your ride. In my case, I did at 24.5 mile ride and it calculated it in 3-mile distances for each split.

What's most amazing (at least, to me) about this app is I can upload each ride to my profile at sportypal.com after I ride. I can then view the ride using a satellite image, Google earth, or on a topo map. There's icons along the ride that indicate where I reached my maximum speed and maximum height. If I zoom in close emough to the satellite image overlay, there's actually TWO routes on the map--a west bound and an east bound trail. I can then store the ride and all its information and look at it over a period of time - lifetime, I guess.

As with other social networking software, you can set privacy options as to who can see your rides. I wouldn't recommend sharing with anyone but friends for safety reasons. It also has features to share via Facebook, and other platforms.

What's REALLY great is that this app can be used for any exercise that involves moving: walking, running, rollerblading, canoeing, etc.... And you have access to all these exercise records in one handy place. It also keeps track of indoor activities, like weightlifting, but I haven't tried out that option.

The only bad review that I've found is that it drains battery life on your phone. However, I DID NOT experience that with my Blackberry Bold 9700 and I was also using the MP3 player during the ride.

As much as it seems like I'm affiliating with App, I'm not. I just wanted to share something really spectacular with you guys!

Take care and nice riding...

P.S. Wanted to add that the add does not time out for when your bike is stopped, so your time and average speed may be a little different from your bike computer. Still overall, a great app!

Auto pause/start would be excellent addition, although i think that I read someplace that they will have this option in the pro version, but how is gonna work we will see :):)

I use the Cyclemeter app on my iphone. Love it. It does have the ability to pause/restart a ride when you're off the bike. Has satellite maps that plot your course viewable within the app, too (don't have to go online later to see it).
