Buzz cut

Reasons to have your husband and daughter to give you a buzz cut:

1) The heat index is 115F. Cooler heads should prevail.

2) Your earrings will no longer be able to hide in your hair.

3) Your daughter's boyfriend will observe that you look like a tough old biker chick - which is oddly pleasing.

4) You finally will be able to see the stuff besides your Bozo-the-Clown summertime hair frizz in a helmet mirror - you know, like that SUV with a texting driver coming up on you.

5) You finally have an excuse to wear fun, pretty, funky, attitudinal hats.

6) Did I mention it is cooler?

7) It is a unique family bonding experience.

8) You finally find out what color your hair really is.

9) It is past time for a whole new look.

10) Oh yeah, the whole breast cancer, chemo thing. Since your hair is falling out by the metric fistfull, anyway, it may as well go all at once.

PS. I really can't stress the 'it is cooler' thing enough.

Great idea (and nervy) about your hair! I've been trying to screw up the courage for a buzz cut for years. Last time we were in Italy they were very popular among women of a "certain age."

I have been too chicken to do a buzz, but my hair is pretty short/pixie-ish. I had the mistaken idea 2 years ago to grow it. After straightening, flat ironing and 2 frustrating cycling seasons with it making me feel horrible, I am back to normal. All it takes is a spritz from my bottle to style my hair when the helmet comes off.

I don't know if I could go back. Granted, I knew I was donating my hair, so I grew it longer than I'd normally have it, but it's so thick it's a hassle. I love not having frizzy hair, I love that it looks different one day to the next, I love how much cooler I feel in the heat. It just works for me all around. Don't know if I'd have the guts to do a full buzz, so more power to you for that! And good luck on reason 10!

jusst because , I have had a buzz cut for over ten years and have gotten used to being mistaken for a man, at least until I open my mouth. I love being able to just dunk my head in a sink, shake it dry and walk away. I hate messing with hair, skin care, makeup. I have gone without makeup including lipstick for at least 20 years. My skin care regiem is to wash my face with warm water, slap on some baby lotion and go to bed. In the morning it is warm water, sunscreen and go.

I had been threatening for years to get a buzz cut - except that was supposed to be prelude to my Vancouver to Key West dream tour. Oh well, now I know how it's done.

And NoNo, yep that long hair on you looks hot. When mine was past my waist, I always wore it in a braid, but yes, it did get to be more than I was willing to work with. You look happier with the shorter cuts.

OK, pictures. The before picture was early June on a ferry across Lake Michigan - thus the wind-blown look. The after picture was right after they sheared me like a sheep. I'm still getting used to the stranger in the mirror - not my self-image at all.11603 11604

I think it looks cool! There's a woman at work who has a buzz cut, and she's very involved with breast cancer fundraisers. One day my former boss asked "Do you think she had cancer?" "I don't know, maybe." "I think she did. She has that 'survivor' look to her." So maybe you should stop calling it a "buzz" and start calling it "The Survivor"!:cool:

I love the fact that my earrings are now out there and not hiding any more. I have some wild pairs that are going to get a lot more outings than they did. They also tend to soften the look - as do the hats.

If the amount of 1 inch hairs stopping up the drain in the shower this morning is any indication, I'd better not get terribly used to this cut. I'll be bald as an egg pretty darn soon. :eek: Nope, not my self-image at all.

As for the whole survivor thing. Um, the word brings to mind that famous statue of the tired Indian on the half-dead horse, both obviously having been through Hell several times. I want to come out the other side looking better than that. I'm liking the term Cancer Conquerer. It's more take-charge, less victim-ish. I will NOT be a victim.
