I'm noticing as I ride that one kneecap hurts. The pain is on the patella itself, not in the joint. It feels as though a tendon or something that lies over the kneecap, hurts. I forgot to pay attention to day, to when it hurts durning a pedal stroke.
Could this be a problem with seat height? Bike fit? Getting used to riding again?
Thoughts anyone?

Hey there shadon... how old are these knee caps?
I have no injury, per se, and my bike fits me very well
However, when I have been hammering these 40 year old knees up hills or doing time trial training, my knees ache (just age you see, and they grind as if they are ratchets) and I just take glucosmine tablets for a few days... it helps me

really! I'm only 32 :)! Honest!
I had thought that if my knees bothered me on the bike, it would have been the joint itself. This pain is actually on top of the knee cap...maybe that's age too...*@#$%!

have you bumped it (hard) or fallen on it? i don't just mean recently... i've fallen repeatedly (biking, hiking, etc etc) on my left knee, and now have some built up scar tissue that causes knee *cap* pain so acute that just the rub of long pants on "bad" days makes it difficult to walk (riding is usually okay, though).
or... a runner-friend of mine suggested this to me as the cause of my knee problems... could you have a torn meniscus (sp?)? visiting an orthopedic surgeon for an MRI might help determine the problem too...
