rollers or trainers for 20" wheels

Has anyone tried using a trainer or rollers on a 20" wheel bike? I'm considering getting one or the other for my Bike Friday.

I managed to get a hair line fracture in my left tibia and the doc has had me in a wheelchair for the past 4 weeks. In another 2 weeks I should get my walking pass, but will need to get my leg muscles back into shape.

Anyways, I was considering getting something like this roller and fork stand combo. Has anyone tried one of these or something else with a 20" wheel?

That's pretty pricey - almost all regular trainers are adjustable, though a 20" wheel is pretty small (I do seem to remember one of my teammates saying she put her son's little BMX in a trainer when he wanted to be like his mommy - then again I don't know if she used any resistance for a 6 yo....). I'd say take your bike to a shop and ask them to test out some trainers to see if they'll adjust enough for your wheels. They should have some floor models out and let you.

You can use a 20" wheel on the 1up USA trainer.

They will also be able to tell you if putting a Bike Friday on the trainer will result in frame damage or flexing. Personally, I'd pick up a cheap, used bike with 700c wheels to be on the trainer, and not risk my beloved Bike Friday.

I'm pretty sure Kurt Kinetic sells a 20" adapter for their trainers. I remember a few years ago, Bike Friday had an article on a guy who rode every day (rain or shine) when he traveled, but he took a trainer with him for some rides. Not sure if I can find it, but based on that, I think it would work. Of course, double check to be sure (and get an old tire or a trainer tire!).

I purchased a Petite Crusoe earlier in the year, and I am considering
getting a trainer, or rollers and a fork stand. Would putting the bike
on a trainer or on rollers and a fork stand cause any problems?

Hi Sylvia.

We've used our bikes with trainers such as the CycleOps with it's small
wheel adapter. The trainers on the page you referred should work too,
but we haven't tried them yet so there may be some technical issues that
need a work around or two.
