She is the Electra Ticino 8D. She is not built for speed yet gets around speedily enough. Takes the hills of my town with no problem. Very light (aluminum) and very VERY comfy. I'm enjoying her a lot.

Apologies for the hugeness of photos- technical difficulites :o

Educate me Zen, what keeps her from being a real Mixte? I thought that it had to do with the "divided" top tube? Thanks! She is a beautiful color!

oh she's close enough to be a true mixte- and she's just beautiful!!!! :D
she's not a true mixte because the top tube doesn't go all the way down to the rear dropouts (it hits the rear seat stay instead).

I love the fenders (are those Velo Orange?) and the basket. VERY nice!!!

They do look like VO fenders but they were stock!
Catrin see Sheldon Brown. He can tell you all about mixtes and everthing else.

Also notice the brake levers in the larger photos... they are French style inverse brake levers (http://bostonretrowheelmen.bostonbiker.org/2010/05/27/conversion-of-a-french-road-bike-into-a-porteur-a-preview/)

She's so pretty. Where did you get her (if that's not a nosy question)?

i got her at the Bike Doctor in Frederick but she's an Electra, so available pretty much anywhere.

I was working check points for an Alley Cat race on Friday night. This is where everyone met at the end.

What kind of gearing does she have?
(in other words, could I get up my 10% hill on it?)

Crankin, there are several different models with different gearing. It's the Ticino model from Electra (electrabike dot com).

My Rivendell Glorius has the same rear stay configuration, as will my new bike, and I consider them mixtes. So there.:):p:)

I actually looked up the names of the Clue characters before I went with this and it's Professor Plum and Miss Scarlett but I'm claiming artistic license.

That bike is so you. :) And now you can get your pie to go and carry it home in your basket.

Miss Plum can also be Professor Plum you know...

ANd I agree with the others...she seems a good match for you...lovely and totally herself!!!

Mazel Tov!

Now tell me why you think you're spending more time with her than with Aurora...I really am interested to hear...more comfortable?

of course!
Miss Professor Plum is a city girl while Miss Aurora is a little rougher.
Just not enough time for everything, you know?

The small bike shop in my mother's town, where we were visiting this summer, handles the Electra bikes. The 8d is a very, very nice bike.

There's been a loooong discussion on the Classic Rendezvous list about the definition of mixte. Frankly, I think the 8D passes the test.

Regardless, that is a lovely bike and a fabulous color!

super cute---love the name, too. I'm still on the hunt for a quality vintage mixte myself.

I looked them up on the Electra site....SWEET!!! but $$$ I'm not sure the 8 is enough gears for our hills....Is it a heavy bike? Steel, right?

Zen
08-22-2010, 02:03 PM
Sadly, not steel.
Aluminum and very light.

I love the color. Such a nice 'plumy' purple.

My LBS has a Deep Plum Purple, almost black Electra. I'm dying for it but can't justify the $$$.

A vintage mixte would be great for riding errands, but every one I've seen is far too small:(

hmmm I wear a 47-49...
