I love Shebeest shorts (SSS and Ultra-D), and am now considering getting one of the ones with a detachable chamois. The styles with detachable chamois include the "Boardrider capri," "Bermuda commuta," and "Breezer boardshort."

I'm interested in them specifically for touring: Theoretically, at the day's end, I can detach the chamois, wash it, and meanwhile, don the pants or shorts with underwear underneath for the evening.

Anyone tried this?

How did the style fit for you? (True to size? Small? etc.) Which length is most practical for touring?

Aside from length of the inseam, are these three shorts/capris any different from each other? (They all have the Shelastic chamois.)

Thanks!

I have 2 pairs of the board shorts. The first pair, bought in 2007 fit me a bit snugly, but well. I like the length, not too long or short. The liner shorts are OK. Not the chamois I would choose for regular cycling shorts, but it's OK. The second pair I bought in 2008. They are big, compared to pair #1. It's very weird. Both are x-smalls and both were bought on TE. Companies change things from year to year, so I chalk it up to that.
I wear the shorts mostly for casual things, without the liners, but I have worn them with liners when I ride around town to do errands on my commuter bike.
I have an acquaintance who has the capri length ones. She likes them, but she is of average height; I am short and on me they would be like cropped pants.

Now I'm wondering if the chamois in the detachable shorts/capris is the same one as in the SSS short?

Some reviews suggest the chamois is too thin for some people's taste.

If it's the same as the SSS then I'll like it, though.

Thanks!

Looks like the same chamois -- the she-lastic.

You could always call TE and ask them.

It's very similar. I traded my sss shorts for the newer S-Pros, but from what I remember, the detachable liners are more similar to the sss chamois. I like thinner chamois, so my opinion might not be the best. The liner shorts are definitely thicker than the S-Pros.
