A good friend of ours and a fixture at our LBS was killed Friday night by a drunk driver while he was riding home.

Stan - who will always be "Stan the Man" to me - was a heck of a nice guy and a superb cyclist. He often would try to talk me into doing brevets - an event he loved - and we would talk bikes for hours. I think he was the only one I ever saw do the Sunday shop ride on a Long Haul Trucker.
He was a great guy and we will all miss his spirit, and his smile.

I'm so sorry for your loss. Sounds like the world has lost a wonderful guy. :(

Wow. I'm so sorry for your loss. I, too, lost a friend to drunk driving (he was walking home, when he was struck by a drunk motorist). I understand the pain, anger, and frustration that goes along with losing a great friend and person in the world, to such reckless behavior. Perhaps, you could try to do a brevet in his honor? Hang in there.

7 -- When I heard about this on the news, I wondered if he was one of your riding pals. I'm so sorry to hear about the loss of your friend. The good ones are often taken from us too soon...

:( I'm so sorry for the loss to you and to your community.

I'm glad that at least the driver stopped and will be prosecuted. Assaulting the officer should hopefully get him the punishment he deserves for killing the rider. :(

Oh, Regina, I hadn't heard this. So sad. He sounds like a great guy.
