View Full Version : Suggestion - bikes in signature?

lph

Inspired by a question in another thread I have a suggestion, may have been up before:

- how about if we note down our bikes and saddles, at least the ones we use the most, in our signature? Voluntary, of course. I've done it now, just to try it out.

There are lots of questions about which saddles people like, and doing this would make it easy at a glance to see who uses what. Plus it's fun to see what kind of bike someone rides, especially if it's identical to your own.

This has been done with kayaks and paddles on a kayak forum I frequent, and it does give a slightly more coherent impression of the poster and his or her main interests. There we can also note height and weight, but that isn't as relevant for biking.

PS. There is a 300 character limit on the signatures, so one can't get too wordy. I had to edit mine a bit to fit, to give an idea of how much 300 characters is.

Good idea. I think there should also be a STICKY about saddles, either in the Open Topic-cycling or in the New Riders section. It would be nice to have one source for new people to go to for info before asking the same questions as have been asked many times before. The Sticky would not take place of the Search function, but it would provide some information common to most of the saddle sensitivity threads. Then folks would have more of an understanding of how to narrow their search.

Go to User CP in the upper left corner. You'll see the options listed on the left.

Hey, this is looking good :)

Just a thought: if you have space to do so, I would be happy to see what type of bike you ride (road/mtb/hybrid etc). I see already now that there are many brands and models I don't recognize, maybe because I'm not in the States.

I'd love to add the colour :D but I don't have enough room...

OK, I added it. Apparently there is no model name on my mountain bike and I honestly cannot remember which one it is. I had to go out and look on the bike; that should tell you how often I go mountain biking... sigh.

I've noticed that couples riding tandems always wear matching jerseys. Makes me wonder if there's some kind of law about it.

We never match when we ride the tandem. We use to wear similar jerseys, but give that up too. :p

:) and there's a tiny one of it there in my profile pic too. i rather love it. it's one year old now, and i just sent a message to natalie last week telling her how i'd fallen in love all over again, after taking it out on a road ride with some friends when my back was feeling too wonky to want to ride my road bike. my friend made a snarky remark about me not complaining if i couldn't keep up on the hills, so i took great pleasure in sitting up straight and cruising past her her on several occasions ;)

I is feeling all warm and fuzzy here :)

Library Girl, your saddle sounds a bit like the old one on my beloved old Trek - stock, sat on and crashed on and torn to unrecognition, hammockshaped but surprisingly comfortable. Guess it's molded to my butt, or vice-versa.

Those of you with one bike - I'm envious of the space you must have in your garages. I wish I could settle for one good bike rather than 4 mediocre ones.

Tzvia - guess you really like that saddle :D

And I love seeing the commuter bikes!

My DD would disown me if we wore matching jerseys on the tandem. We only have one jersey and a jacket in common and I think she nearly died of embarrassment the day we both wore the same.:p

DH doesn't even like us to wear the t-shirts we have in common on the same days because it is "too cute"

It seems like most people go to the Open Topic (Cycling) or New Riders, ask their questions without going to the Gear and Apparel. I'm fine with my gear and apparel, so I'm not looking for answers. But there seem to be a whole lotta the same questions being asked, mainly in New Riders and Open Topic (Cycling).

I suppose we could redirect the questions to the existing subforum stickies and hope for the best.
