I just wanted to share this with people who will appreciate it rather than people who know me and think I'm a cycle-path obessed with bikes.
I now have a part-time "job" as a group ride leader for a LBS. It's leading the Saturday morning rides, and also creating, updating and managing a group ride blog and social networks.
Seriously, I don't get paid much money, but I do get paid to ride bikes and play on the computer - and really, the discount is worth more than my hourly wage (honestly, I'd probably do it for "free" as long as I got the discount - I ride on Saturdays anyhow :) It's more like a sanity check from "real" job )
Saturday was my first day there, and we had a great ride, with 4 "customer/riders" - this store has had an issue with low rider attendance, and my job is to get those attendance numbers up.
So, wish me luck!!!

Hey cool! I am a new group leader too! A friend of mine started a Women Only Wednesday (WOW) ride from one of the LBS and I have been helping from the start. One of us takes the faster gals and the other the beginners. Well, this week is the last one she will be here for the summer so I am taking over the reins! :D

Sounds like fun! That discount sounds dangerous, though. I'd wind up spending more than I made!

Congratulation!!
Do you print out a route sheet for your ride?
Do you do an impromptu fix-a-flat clinic on the ride when someone gets a flat?
Or do some simple mechanical fix during the ride? e.g. broken spokes, readjusting brakes to stop rubbing against a rim, temporary fix to a blown out tire.
If you thought of these things, fantastic!! If not then a suggestion to make it more rider friendly.
temporary fix to a blown tire. If its small enough, you can stuff a folded up dollar bill over the hole from the inside or better yet, if you have a large patch, usually patch kit will have one that is fairly large, and patch the tire casing from the inside.

They have not been printing out route sheets - that's kind of been the problem. It hasn't been very well attended or promoted. That's where I come in. I plan on posting the routes on the blog once it's created.
One of the employee riders is a mechanic, and did do an impromptu fix of a chain that got caught in a gal's rear derailer.
Thanks, and I welcome any suggestions you all may have!

Fun, and congrats! Are these rides out of Centennial? I haven't done any group rides yet but thinking about it.

Kate,
no, they are out of Littleton - Wads/Bowles area. Would love to have you out on at least one ride. I'm on vacation the next two weekends, so my next Saturday back would be July 10th. I can PM you the info if you're interested :)
