NYC wants to remove ghost bikes (http://www.nydailynews.com/ny_local/2010/06/21/2010-06-21_ghosts_set_to_disappear_city_aims_to_remove_bikedeath_memorials.html).
I'm glad to see a push to removing abandoned bikes (or bike parts). Those are a huge eyesore, a waste of space, and a sign of real irresponsibility on the part of bikers.
I have mixed feelings about ghost bikes. Especially on the bike path, which seems safe but really isn't, they are a reminder to pay attention. But they do take up much-needed space in some cases, and I can see how they are viewed as an eyesore.
