I finally caved and decided this was the year I would buy real shoes and retire the cheapo used pair I picked up three years ago. They served their purpose, but were a full size too large (US sizing, 2 sizes in Euro:eek:). Also, I usually get leg/foot cramps while riding, and I was thinking it was related to the shoes. Memorial Day weekend I was visiting my friends in Rochester, and she wanted to look at some bikes. While in the shop I decided to try on some shoes. I wanted to try on the Sidi's, but they didn't have them in my size. So I tried on the Bontragers and was amazed at the fit difference between them and my old shoes. Things felt great, toe box is comfy, and I like the ratchet system to fine tune the fit up top. The sole is their mid-grade carbon sole, and they feel so much lighter than my other shoes. The thing I liked the most was the e-soles system that gives customized arch support. There's a standard insert in there, but you can buy a set of 4 different sizes and cushions for like $50.
Despite being a bit more than I was looking to spend, I thought what the heck, life's too short! I took them for a 30 mile ride on the lovely trails there, and stopped by the shop for a quick cleat adjustment. Sunday I took them for a 50 mile ride. Despite having had a stomach bug for several days at that point and being a bit dehydrated and void of fuel, I made it through with zero cramping! The shoes felt great the whole ride and I couldn't believe my feet didn't cramp up. Boy does that make riding more enjoyable! I think I may order the arch inserts as the standard ones feel a little hard for my liking. Even better, my brother is picking up the tab since he hadn't gotten me a birthday present yet.:D:D:D
