This is an annual fun event for the Bloomington Bicycle Club. A small ride - usually about 30 riders of all abilities - there are some hills though.... I'll be out of town, but my humble condo is available to anyone interested (although TrekJeni and her SO have dibs on the master bedroom for her Mountain Bike race...)

WHEN: 1pm Sunday June 6, three to four hours

WHERE: Starts at Bryan Park east side parking lot; route southern Bloomington suburbia, downtown, IU campus

WHAT: A 33 mile descriptive ride that travels by 90% of the film Breaking Away. An extensive cue sheet with map filled with movie trivia is your prize for attending. The route has been tweaked, hopefully this year we can all stay together. Food stop in the middle of route at Sunoco on Victor Pike & Hwy 37.

HOW: On your bikes of course! Italian bikes and jerseys are preferred.

WHY: Breaking Away has produced many memories for lots of the old timers that lived here 30 years ago. The movie is still ranked in the top ten of inspirational and sports movies. This movie put the Little 500 and Bloomington in the national spotlight. The students are gone and now's the opportunity to ride down memory lane!

WHO: Although not a Bloomington native, Jim Schroeder has watched this movie at least 100 times and has studied this film almost frame by frame to capture all the sights and dialogue in this movie for this ride. Try to stump him with trivia you might think he doesn't know.

SUGGEST: The evening before have some friends over and watch the movie. Every BBC member has a DVD of this classic. Don't they?

CIAO!

It is a blast. They even ride on the Little 500 track...which is actually a very difficult pull making you appreciate the condition that the Little 5 riders are in...

No trailers to draft, but IndySteel and I did ride that stretch of highway last year...just on the shoulder!

Sounds like a really neat ride. I wish I was a couple hours' closer.

As someone who is a legacy Hoosier and recent grad, I would LOVE to do this, but I will be riding with the local club up here (Northern IN, Chicagoland). It's a great ride I have been looking forward to for about 4 weeks, so I have to go. No plans to drive 4 hours south, ride, and then impose on my Godparents haha. Although perhaps someday when I am old like my Dad I will embark on it just for the novelty! My Dad makes all our Hoosier houseguests watch the movie.

It gets annoying because my Dad and I like to point out where the riding is. My least favorite part is the cemetery there on the way to the West side. That hill is better walked than biked! Killer on the knees!
