If you were me, would you go with the lovely Fuji Finest 1.0 2009 model that is selling at an impressive markdown at Performance Bicycles, or try and track down a Trek 1.2? I liked the way the Fuji feels (and it's pretty!), but I read good reviews of the Trek.

I have about $800-$900 to spend and want a decent, trustworthy bike for 20-50 mile rides, eventually working up to the odd century or two.

Thank you!

I don't know how much either bike costs or what components they have but I do know Fuji has a reputation as having a high quality:cost ratio.

Treks may be slightly higher due to a well known name but don't hold me to that.

You say the Fuji felt good (+1)
Have you ridden the Trek?

I have the 2009 Fuji 2.0 (blue). I've put over 3000 miles on her since last August, up to about 65 in one day. The bike was good value for the money- although not super light. I don't know what the difference is between the 2.0 and the 1.0 however.

The Fuji Finest 1.0 is a good value, especially for the price that they're currently selling it at. If you like it and it fits, go for it.

I have the 2009 Fuji Finest 1.0, and I think it's a great bike, although I haven't ridden the Trek. I *think* some of the parts are higher spec on the Fuji (Shimano 105 and Tiagra parts), vs. Trek (Shimano Tiagra and sora), but I might be wrong there.

As previous posters have said, if it were me I would go out and ride the Trek, and see which feels more comfortable. The Fuji is a great fit for me, but maybe that's just compared to my old men's road bike! ;) The longest ride I've taken my Fuji on was 52 miles, but I've only had it four weeks. It was just as comfortable as the end of 52 miles as it was at the start, no pain, just right for me, I really love it!

That is an amazing markdown at Performance. I rode the Trek 1.2, and it was fine, but not great. Try them both if you really want to, but if you love the Fuji, that's what's important.

Thank you, everyone.

I'll scout around town to see if anyone has the Trek so I can test ride it. In the meantime, though, your comments make me feel a lot better about my instant fondness for the Fuji.

Being new to this, I wanted to check if there were any "known issues" with the Fuji that a salesperson wouldn't necessarily warn me about. Based on what you folks are saying, there don't seem to be.

I really appreciate your advice. :o

My other half has one, the only drawback, as mentioned, is it's heaviness. I suppose one could remedy this by drinking less beer the night before the ride, but that seems silly.

Hah, I ride so I *can* drink beer.

And eat cupcakes. :D
