Afternoon all!
I'm putting together the wedding reception slideshow for one of my good friends from college, and choosing a song for the "growing up" portion is proving to be a bit difficult. I am combining the pictures of her and her soon-to-be-husband as kids to tell more of a story (instead of showing her pictures, and then his) and was wondering if anyone has any suggestions for songs to use that aren't quite so overdone? This song will [theoretically] play through the "baby growing up" years and into "family" pictures.
Any suggestions are very much appreciated as my brain is officially toast.
Thanks!

Kenny Rogers "Through the Years" immediately came to mind, but that may be way too old and overplayed.
How about "Time of your Life" by Green Day. It's one of my all-time favorite songs, and even tho it's been used for graduations and what-not for years- I still love that song. ;)
Sounds like a fun project to work on!!!

I'm not good at recommending songs since I'm a sieve when it comes to songs and music.
But putting together that slideshow for a key life changing event, like a wedding, is quite special and it will be remembered for many years thereafter. A public retrospective on one's life is very rare...while a person is still alive. Doh't be surprised if someone starts to cry.
Good for the rest of the guests also.

How about something less mainstream? We had an 'engagement video' created by our videographer and we played that at the reception prior to our entrance. It was set to a Miles Davis song that, as the video drew to a close, the band picked up the song and we were introduced. It flowed wonderfully.
Anyway, my point is that now, when I hear that song (I'll try to find the exact name if you'd like) at other occasions, it always brings back such wonderful memories. I love that I hear it in the strangest places, too (like movies, background in nice restaurants, the occasional commercial, at a book store, etc).

GLC, what a beautiful tribute. :)
I think of instrumental music (movie scores!) moreso than vocal music when paired with pictures. My first choice would be something from composer Hans Zimmer (http://www.hans-zimmer.com/fr/newsite.php?rub=disco). Here's a YouTube sampling of his major motion picture successes:

Another movie score I'd consider: Howard Shore's Lord of the Rings, Evenstar (http://www.amazon.com/Lord-Rings-Picture-Trilogy-Soundtrack/dp/B0000TAZBK/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1274294020&sr=1-4) in particular.
Enya's Watermark (http://www.amazon.com/Watermark-Enya/dp/B000002LRR/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1274292925&sr=1-1) is also nice as well as Shepherd Moons (http://www.amazon.com/Paint-Sky-Stars-Best-Enya/dp/B000002NJH/ref=pd_sim_m_7).
And finally, Patrick Cassidy's Vide cor Meum. May be a little over the top for your slideshow but it's absolutely beautiful and very stirring.

I love the instrumental idea. If you can find that Miles Davis song, that would be lovely.
Thanks!

You can also do a google search for what you are needing. That's how we came up with some of the music for the slideshow at my son's wedding. I just did a search for wedding slideshow music and came up with stuff like this http://www.lajolladjs.com/weddingdj-slideshow-songs.html

The Indiana Jones theme.
Umm. Something different, edgier...I always liked the music from the soundtrack of St. Elmo's Fire. Sounds like kids growing up to me.:D
