and no, it doesn't have anything to do with biking. *sigh* Unless it has to do with lack of biking.

I have some kind of insidious stomach bug that has been plaguing me for 3 days now. I'm finally keeping food down and slept well and long last night, but lo and behold, I wake up with hips that are *killing* me. Perfectly synchronized on either side, right smack in the middle of the joint, feels just an inflammation or like I've done a massively hard hike, radiating down on the outside of my leg and calf all the way to the ankle. But all I've done for 3 1/2 days is mope around here, and sit and lie a lot!

The annoying thing is that it doesn't go away if I sit or lie or stretch or bend over or anything. Any tips? I don't think I'll be back on bike for a couple of days, so if it's lack of biking I'll have to get used to it....

One possible solution...
Walking can help hip joint aching. I used to have it every morning. then when i started walking about 3-5 miles twice a week the aching hip joint thing went away. Stopped walking for a month, it came back. Started walking again, no hip pain. So now walking is part of my exercise plan, along with biking, gardening, and dancing.

the reason walking helps hips joints more than biking is because when walking vigorously, you extend your leg BACK behind your butt. you never do that while seated on a bike. Range of motion is what its all about. Like the old saying..."Move it or lose it".

Lph--how odd! Maybe it's the result of your virus?

The first time I caught the Flu Light my knee AND hip joints ached. Weird.

Thanks ladies!

I haven't done any exercise off the bike, that stomach bug made walking up the stairs feel like a workout! So I'm not surprised I have twinges and pains and am stiff, but I've always been able to stretch them away, now stretching just makes it hurt like h*ll.

Maybe it is the flu making a small ache feel a lot worse. I've taken some painkillers and hope to get some sleep. Back on bike tomorrow, crossing fingers :-X
