The Bike Lane has started to have weekly ladies' rides on Sunday mornings at 9 am. They just started doing these rides this past weekend, and I haven't been able to join them yet but I'm hoping to ride with them this Sunday to check it out.

The ride is just over 20 miles long on the roads of Reston, VA. They say the pace is casual and the ride lasts about 1.5 hours.

The Bike Lane is located at:

11943 Democracy Drive
Reston Town Center, Reston, VA
Phone: 703-689-2671

Reston Town Center is just off the WOD Trail. There's plenty of free parking and lots of places to get food afterwards. (My favorite is Yogen Fruz for frozen yogurt with real fruit. Cherries and bananas, yum.)

BTW if I do join them this Sunday I will follow up this ride with an additional 30-40 miles on my own, probably on the WOD.

p.s. For folks looking for a faster ride, there is a weekly Saturday 9 am ride at the same shop that also goes through Reston and environs. Distance is about 28 miles and the pace is 17-18 mph. There's also a Saturday morning ride from the Bike Lane's store in Burke, VA that is about 30 miles at a ~15 mph pace. You can sign up for their email list to receive weekly notifications about the Saturday rides (e.g., to make sure they're not canceled due to bad weather).

NYBiker,

Thanks for mentioning this. It's great that The Bike Lane is holding ladies' rides and that they're so close to my home. I'll join them some Sunday. I'm out of town this Sunday but would love to join you with a follow up ride in the future doing an additional 30-40 miles on the W&OD.

I really enjoy YogenFruz too. Raspberries and Strawberries are my favorite fruits to blend in the yogurt. You should also try the Gelato place in the town center. They have a non-fat blend that's delicious.

Good information to know ... For folks looking for a faster ride, there is a weekly Saturday 9 am ride at the same shop that also goes through Reston and environs. Distance is about 28 miles and the pace is 17-18 mph. Thanks again.

I can't hang with the Saturday ride because I'm not fast enough, but I got the cue sheet from them last year and I do it on my own. Actually I modified it a bit so I do my own 24-mile version of it. I use it as my training loop when I have to do long rides by myself. It starts briefly on trails -- west on the WOD and south on the Ffx County Pkwy trail to cross over the toll road. Then it heads south-ish through various residential neighborhoods into Herndon and I think Oakton, too, before circling back up to Reston.
