I finally got the courage to put my Speedplay pedals on my bike after 2 years of riding with pancake pedals and hiding my head in shame. Now that I feel more legit, I'd like to name my bike.

The story behind the bike: My husband has been interested in cycling for years and I always wanted to join him but never really had the right motivation. That is until I walked into my LBS and saw this little lady up for sale and it was just my color :) The LBS owner bought it for his wife as a present after she survived breast cancer and the loss of their house in one of the major Southern California fires (thus the flames in the paint job). She rode is once and then it sat in their garage until she wanted to sell it to buy a horse. Luckily for me, it fit like a glove!

I'm still quite the novice rider, but my husband and I love to ride together on the weekends. We still are only going on 13 mile rides but we hope to really up the miles this year now that I've finally put the pedals on.

I would love to name her...she did help me lose 20 pounds but I'm just not that creative.

Any help would be appreciated!

I'm drooling....that is one beautiful bike.

How about Rosa (italian for pink)?

I'm Italian myself so I think that way, what can I say?

Ciao

I'm useless with names and normally I don't like pink, but I love the deep pink into pastel flames. That is one mean grrrrrl bike....somehow I think that bike's name has got to be the same...tough, yet feminine.

That is a really nice bike! Hope you and she can build up even more miles.

Thanks for the responses everyone! Great ideas!

For some reason I have Lola or Chloe in my head but there's no rhyme or reason for that name.

I was also thinking about Eileen, only so I could sing "Come on, Eileen" to her as I climb the hill :)

Sprite? I don't know why - that's just what popped into my head!

She's lovely!! And don't feel bad at all - you ride her and you love her - that's what matters:)

For some reason, the color reminds me of a wonderful cool drink that I sometime have in the summer, when friends come over, and it is really hot. It is a Sapphire Breeze (Bombay Sapphire + pink graprefruit juice + cranberry juice + fresh lime). Cool, flavorful, refreshing. That is what the paint job of your bike makes me think of. Rejuvenating. Just like biking. ;)

Oooh, I love the name Lola too - Lola the sexy roller! :p She's pink and flirty and oh-so-gorgeous! Although perhaps you don't want to encourage too much flirtiness, might take her mind off the job of getting you up those hills ;)

Wow. If I saw that in a shop and it was my size, I would have bought it if I needed it or not.

I too thought of bubble gum type names, or cotton candy, so how about Candy. Sounds better than Bazooka or Hubba Bubba :)

Well, now you know why I didn't name my bikes... :o

Roxy? (Concrete Blonde song)

Veronica? (Elvis Costello song)

I did like the idea of the name "Eileen." I couldn't stop singing that song in my head all day after I read your post.

Thanks everyone!

I love some of the names but then they remind me of people so that is kind of weird for me.

I think I'll stick with Lola...the more I think about it, the more I love it for some reason. Plus, I can definitely sing that song as I climb up the hills :D

Thank you for all of the help! I'm excited I finally got to share my bike with all of you. My hope is to do the 50 miler or metric in October with hubs in the Tour de Poway...although I have heard some rumblings about it not being that organized.

I like Eileen - "You in that dress,
oh, my thoughts I confess
verge on dirty - oh come on Eileen"
sexy, dirty girl :)
