Whats your favorite sandwich? I'm not much of a fan of lunch meat. My favs are: PB&J, Ground Bologna, Grilled Cheese.

my favorite for the bike is an "Elvis" which is peanut butter and banana only I make it with banana chips instead of fresh banana. That way it has a biit of texture, and the bananas doen't look black and slimey. My favorite at home is any sort of low fat cold cut, homemade bread (which my husband makes weekly) and a tablespoon of low fat mayo and dill relish. My favorite breakfast sandwich is a toasted english muffin (whole wheat) spread with apple cinnamon jelly and non fat cottage cheese.

I love cashew butter, banana and honey. Although, I smash the banana, because apparently I like it slimey ;-)
I also like pita bread and hummus.

We make these yummy sandwiches maybe 1-2 times per month:
Sandwiches using baguette stick or pannini bread. Has been lightly heated in frying pan with smashed, minced garlic or abit of olive oil. Just to heat up. Inside has:
1. boccini cheese rounds or mozarella cheese (Italian style), cut fresh tomatoes, fresh basil. Tomatoes may be sprinkled with balsamic vinegar. could add slices of red pepper. Or add a couple of capers.
2. smoked lox salmon, brie or goat cheese, fresh basil leaves or dill.
Eat immediately while bread is still abit warm. Just so yummers!!

Fluffernutter -- PB + marshmallow fluff. It's good cold or grilled. :D

Fluffernutter sandwiches were my absolute favorite when I was a kid!
Now, crunchy peanut butter and banana (bananas cut thinly lengthwise and laid over the peanut butter) on Dave's Killer Bread is my favorite, especially for long distance cycling. I can go 2 hours on one of those babies! I'll also do almond butter and banana.
A bagel with lox, cream cheese and red onion is another favorite, but I would never cycle with it. This is what my Dad always makes for me when I visit home. I can never eat one without thinking of my Dad, and my Yiddish grandparents in their musty old apartment in Queens. Good memories.

We must be related! Same fav sammy as a kid, and a lox bagel is the best, and reminds me of MY grandparent's old apartment in Queens!

Cheese. Cheese, cheese, cheese.
Never did the pb&j thing. When I was growing up I liked cheese and jelly. Still do.
There's a deli near work where I like to get muenster on rye with tomatoes and russian dressing.
Cheese and tomatoes go great together.
Cheese on a whole wheat bagel with a little mayo is always nice.
(Yes I know, I have strange tastes. This is just the tip of the iceberg...)

Oak, if you're ever in NYC, you have to eat at Moustache: http://www.moustachepitza.com/ in the village. They make their pita to order, and it comes out big and poofy. It's so delicious.
My favorite sandwich is fresh mozzarella and either broccoli rabe or arugula on focaccia, with lots of olive oil. Neither version would be good on a bike, unless you didn't care about being able to shift or stop. :p
I also love grilled cheese and tomato. And PB and B. I eat a lot of sandwiches.

Ultimate favorite: a very special BLT. Featuring a perfectly ripe tomato, so fresh it's still warm from the sun in my garden. L is replaced by spinach out of the garden. It's on my home-made bread, with a generous amount of home-made mayo. (First of the tomatoes have been planted, and I'm counting the days...)
Another fav: grilled cheese and avocado. YUM!

Admittedly to me, peanut butter and banana sandwiches sound abit foreign.
It was more about peanut butter over hot toast as a kid. :)
I only eat sandwiches several times per month but like something thoughtfully put together over the last few years. Explains why our sandwiches sound elegant: it's something we would have for supper instead of lunch.
Otherwise the bread from the bakery is so good quality, that just cutting a slice and occasionally put on abit of goat cheese, is lovely.
Our favourite picnic on summer evenings are fulsome, elegant sandwiches, sitting by the waterfront.

I wonder if that's the place we wandered into on New Year's Eve one time, after getting within maybe three blocks of Times Square with all the crowds, and then wandering around the city until we got hungry around 3 a.m. It was delicious!

Although I wouldn't really call it a "sandwich"...everyday for breakfast, I eat a slice of Ezekial bread toasted with a light spread of natural PB, a drizzle of honey, and 9 banana slices arranged on top...to finish it off, I sprinkle cinnamon on top...YUMMM!
For a regular lunch-type sandwich...I'd say my favorite would be a few slices of low-sodium turkey breast with a slice of low-fat cheese (usually mozzarella or provolone) and some lettuce on either Ezekial bread or those new bagel thins...yes, boring I know...but that's what I like.

I can see the peanut butter and pretzels part, but the cheddar is unique. Not sure that is a tast sensation that would rock my world, though. :)

And I forgot, a hot/warm Reuben sandwich with quality pastrami or corned beef, sauerkraut inside is a must plus a mozarella or Swiss cheese. I eat my garlic pickle on the side. :D
I get mine from a restaurant.
And another memory but only from Toronto (Vancouver doesn't have enough varieties or I don't know where to get it. It's more of a great seafood city not other types of meats.): Canadian peameal bacon on a bun with spicy/honey mustard. I usually put on 2 types of mustard inside bun.
I know it's carnivorous. Oh well..these are the rare meat sandwiches I enjoy since hamburgers are ok, but not the greatest thing to me. (I eat a hamburger...um once a yr., if that.) These other sandwiches...um...maybe once or twice annually. So I enjoy them slowly.

Hot eggplant parm on toasted Italian bread. Mmmmm...
Now you're talking! Growing up, I was always the kid with leftovers for lunch, so sandwiches were a rarity. When I got to high school mom quit lunch-making duty and being a dumb, lazy teen, I just threw sandwiches together - and hated them. Usually just dry lunch meat and American cheese. So gross. Now that I'm older and a bit wiser, I love a good caprese or salami with oil and vinegar on crusty Italian bread. Grilled eggplant focaccia with some mozz and basil, mmmmmm. Once in a while, I love a plain PB sandwich; just TONS of PB so your mouth is almost sealed shut:p

I love a sprout sandwich with havarti, avocado and tomato on baguette. Also love hummus, turkey and basil on whole wheat. I love any kind of grilled cheese but especially a quesadilla folded in half to make a sandwich, with sliced avocado as the filling. I have two sandwiches that remind me of my dad: pimento and cheese on toast, and a bagel with cream cheese, genoa salami and mustard. Recently had a brie, pear and ham grilled sandwich that was out of this world.
Oh boy, these sandwiches all sound stunning! And my everyday sandwiches sound very humdrum. But they're a staple, and have to be easy to transport and easy to eat, with fairly simple ingredients. I make them all with double thin slices of wholegrain bread, with rye, but not the dark "sour" rye bread. I like light bread too, but not for "real food".
At any given time I'm probably going through four a day of one or two of these types:
- cheese and fruit - aged yellow cheese or brie with sliced grapes or apple
- cream cheese and blackcurrant jam
- banana and a tart jam, like cranberry
- good old boiled egg and mayonaisse, salt and pepper, cherry tomato if I have time
- brown goat's cheese, sweet and caramelish, nothing like the salty white ones
- thick slices of green apple with a sprinkle of cinnamon and sugar on top
- tunafish and mayonaisse
- sliced avocado and a good ham
I'm off the peanut butter wagon and don't expect to be back on for at least a year!

I love peanut butter and cheddar sandwiches. So glad I'm not the only one.
I've been chowing on hummus and avocado spread on good bakery bread or english muffin. Sometimes mixed w/ hard boiled egg. This would probably be a good substitute for mayo

Brown goat cheese sounds interesting. Don't think I've ever seen it in the US.
ETA: I just googled it and found "gjetost." Which apparently is available here. Sounds good and I shall look for it.

Yep, gjetost. Definitely tastes like caramel. I went to school with a woman who'd spent a year in Norway, and she introduced me to it.

Whole Foods here has it - it's called "Ski Queen" IIRC, and it's in a red package shaped like a cube. It's tasty stuff!

The only cheese I miss as a vegan is gjetost. So caramel-y and delicious.
My favorite sandwich right now is roasted veggies (eggplant, zucchini, mushrooms, sweet potatoes) with an olive tapenade all wrapped up in a warm baguette, tightly wrapped and eaten hours later when all the flavors have melded. It's the perfect picnic/hiking sandwich.

For some reason, I've had a craving for a Liverwurst, mustard, and sweet pickle sandwich. This was an old favorite of my mother's, God rest her soul.
I used to love fried egg sandwiches with tomatoes and lots of mayo.
Have Ski Queen cheese on the Whole Foods list...

Sort of like an olive relish. Mine has finely chopped black and green olives, capers, roasted mushrooms, garlic, some vinegar and dijon mustard and whatever herbs I have around.

+1 on the Grilled cheese
but another "comfort sandwich" I love is fried bologna. basically you fry the bologna (just throw it on the pan) and put it on bread that has mayo and a bit of mustard.

There's a deli near where I work that makes a "California Tuna Sandwich." Tuna salad, swiss cheese, tomatoes, lettuce, avocado and sprouts on your choice of bread. I like it on a spinach wrap, hold the sprouts. I get it for lunch at least once a week.

Crunchy peanut butter and either black raspberry or strawberry jelly--late night snacking at its finest.
Roast beef, a nice cheddar, lettuce, red onion, and horseradish. Add a strip of bacon if I'm feeling indulgent.
