Jamis Bikes

Anyone know anything about these bikes? I am looking at the Xenith, Eclipse and Comet. A small bike shop here in town said they could get me one $500-600 less than the comparable bikes that are sold around here.

my ex used to ride one as his commuter... it was a cyclo-cross bike...not sure which one but as a commute bike it was perfect because he didn't care so much if it got a little beat up... that's teh extent of what I know and probably not very helpful so hopefully someone else will come answer too! :rolleyes: :D

My buddy's BS sells Jamis and I've been VERY impressed with what I've seen!! Generally, they are spec'd very well for the price point - without the misleading "candy" you often see on mountain bikes - the high end derailleur and the really low end everything else. With Jamis, you tend to get the level you pay for, without any fuss or fooling around. At least that's with the mountain bikes.

Since I don't recognize the models you've quoted, I'm guessing they are road bikes. I'll take a look at the site and talk to my buddy and let you know what I know. He's brought in a few road bikes this year, and some of them have been ooooooo ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh spanky!! Gorgeous things!

I'll let you know what I find out!

thanks LBTC!!! I can get the Xenith top of the line for $3k, the Eclipse for $2100 and the Comet for $1600. The all have the ultegra's and are all within 14-15.5lbs, I believe. The Xenith comes in yellow and black - very pretty.

Bikegoddess rides a Jamis road bike. It's a lovely bike and I think she likes it. Bicycling magazine gave them good marks, what LBTC sed, good bang for your buck.

BG has a Jamis Quest 03. I do love my bike. I've got about 8000 +++ miles on it. No injuries. Only problem so far has been a broken spoke last weekend on a ride. I like their components- I switched out for a mtn bike setup as I wanted lower gears. My triple was set up so I could do that.

Check the Jamis site. They will give you all the specs.

Steel bikes are very reliable and stiff which is what you want for long distance riding.

the bike shop buddy has spoken....

He's got an Eclipse and loves it, but his has campy and he likes the shifting of ultegra better. He said an Eclipse with Ultegra would be PERFECT. :p Since it is steel and carbon fibre, it's a great bike with a smooth ride.

The Xenith, being all carbon, is a heckuva bike, but he's not sure who needs such a high-end bike! Don't get me wrong, he'd be drooling over it if you bought it, but he thinks the Eclipse is an over-all better deal for a really great bike.

Have you taken one out for a ride yet?

Thanks ya'll!!! I rode with a fellow this w/e that has an Allez sport and is selling it for a Serotta (?) it is steel and he says it's a much more comfy bike for distance.

AND, the Jamis is lighter than the Serotta. The Xenith is much more bike than I need or want to spend the money on it just happened to be the color I wanted :p

OK, I will definately check into the Jamis then, I believe I can get a comparable bike to the Roubaix for less and a steel frame!

AND, the Jamis is lighter than the Serotta. The Xenith is much more bike than I need or want to spend the money on it just happened to be the color I wanted :p

OK, I was looking at the Terry bikes, anyone have experience with them???? the Isis and Fast Woman look promising.

I am having a good bit of shoulder and back pain, I read the thread yesterday and checked my bike, my handlebars are lower than my seat, I need to see about getting a new headset I suppose AND my handlebars are too wide, I am checking on getting a new bar WSD from terry.

After all this I might just have to keep this bike! I don't have a problem with it really, I just wish people wouldn't call it "special ed" (yes within hearing distance) :mad:

I have a 2001 Isis (steel) that is quite a bit heavier than the new models. It's a great bike and fits me well (I'm 5'2" and have the 17.5" size), but I ended up getting a 46cm carbon Aegis Swift last year to have a lighter bike - RIGHT before Terry came out with the 2005 Isis. I would have gone the 2005 Isis route if the ti one had been available when I wanted a lighter bike. Now my Isis is on the trainer.

A friend of mine just got the 2005 Isis and loves it. Apparently they are out of stock (or very nearly), though, even though the site still makes them look orderable. She got the second to last 17.5" size. The 2006 model is apparently a hair lighter yet but is not titanium.

The 24" front wheel in the smaller sizes completely eliminates toe overlap and allows a good geometry (with 73-degree seat tube) to be maintained; however, it does mean carrying two different size tubes on every ride, and the 24" tubes and tires are hard to find; I had to order directly from Terry or buy at my local Terry dealer and make sure not to run out!

Thanks Emily! I was looking at the Isis, 17.5 lbs. isn't too bad. I need to do some measuring to find out what I am looking for.
