The quest for fitness continues for me. Does it continue for you? Then sign on up for the next 2 months challenge and we'll be in this thing together.
I may be getting a temporary new job in June where I could possibly ride my bike to it, or at least get home earlier and ride more. Fingers crossed that his will be the 2-month challenge where I make a serious dent in the weight I need to lose. :)
So let me know here if you are game for this next challenge. We will weigh in for week 1 on or around Friday May 7th. You can give me a goal or not, whatever works for you! This is all to help you guys, so no worries - however it works for you, it works for me too!

I'm in this time. I need all the help I can get!
I'm up to (yikes) 149 lbs. Ultimate goal is 115-120, but for the 8 weeks, I'm going to set a goal of 12 lbs, which would put me at about 137.

I am in this time, it is so helpful to do this. My current goal is 135 pounds so let's make that my goal for this time. If I can just break (and stay under) that 143 barrier that I've been on for the last month!
However during that time I was working a LOT, now back to usual insane schedule and am planning on riding 3-4 days a week on top of my two spinning classes and 2 personal training appointments. If all of this doesn't get my weight down, then it certainly should be tightening what is there and adding/strengthening muscle and lose body fat at the same time.
I haven't been 135 in more years than I would care to admit - once there will need to consider what is best at that point :)

I kinda blew it on the current challenge. However, I want to keep at it. I'm 185 right now, but want to keep a goal of 180. :o 5 lbs... I can loose 5 lbs in 2 months, right?!

Count me in. I have been stuck in a stall for a couple months now. I am getting smaller (I've lost pant sizes) but no weight. I am currently 146 with an ultimate goal of 120-125. My goal is to loose 8 lb in the next 8 weeks.
I also started the couch to 5K program last week, if anyone is interested in joining me. I am so not a runner, but I wanted something to do during the winter when I am not cycling.

Count me in. 172 this morning. Goal weight is still what it says on my drivers license, 135. I don't want to get pulled over and not have valid id. :p ;)
Thanks for doing this! Like many I've focussed only on how I feel. perform on the bike and how my clothes fit. That got me from a size 20 relaxed fit with elastic waistband to size 12 jeans ... at the same weight :D. So that was all muscle, right? Now I think it's time to actually look at the weight as well.

Your right about body composition...it is a bit weird. I also went from 20 also to a size 6 now. I weigh 145. The last time I weighed 145, I was in a size 12!

Yep, it is funny. I'd rather be fat and fit any day than thin and out of shape. :D
The year I got down to size 12 the changes were dramatic. I was training for my 2nd AIDS Lifecycle ride. I'd struggled on my first. Coach Spazzdog suggested I add weight training and intervals to the mix (who knew you need that to ride for a week? Everyone). The inches melted off. I was buying new jeans as fast as I could donate the old ones. My weight stayed the same.
Now it's all for the knees, and health in general but especially my gimpy grumpy arthritic joints. In any shape or form they need the weight off.

I'm in. I need accountability. I want to lose 10 lbs, to get down to 150 and stay there. I know I'm fit, but if I cut out the snacking and eating the boys' leftovers (I hate to see stuff go to waste!!!) I think it'll help. Time to start tracking my food/calories again on LoseIt on my iPhone.

Starting weight is up to 161.1 this week. I've had a difficult week and the scale is reflecting it.
My goal weight remains the same for the challenge since I don't think this bump up is real anyway. It will somewhat bloat my % for the next time around but there isn't much I can do about it.

And yeah, Martina, I'm pretty sure you had it set to change colors automatically the first iteration, but that got lost in my many many copies. :) I don't mind manually doing them, but if you want to play with it I can give you access. No need to though, up to you! Thanks for the offer! I meant to try and figure out how you did that and what I messed up, but I never got around to it. :o

Ok--well If susan is back in, then I am too :D
My weight this morning was 168. Now, I KNOW that my body fat has dropped, but that number does not feel right. I think that I have gained muscles and perhaps a little bit of fat too. I am going to do my best NOT to obsess (which I tend to do), but I am using Daily Plate to keep track of my calories and see where I can correct a little bit. I am tapering and racing a few times in the next few weeks, so now is the time to dial in the nutrition. Then in mid June I ramp up for my last build for Louisville Ironman. I need to be sure I don't add any bad weight.
I guess I will say 160, which feels strange considering I was below that a while ago, BUT my body fat is under 20, so I can't complain I guess. I think I mentally need the positive support of this group too.

My sports nutritionist is using calipers on me. I don't like her to do it too often though, because it feel so invasive to have someone squeezing on my squishy parts ;) She did say last time that the biggest drop was in my arms. I feel like my tummy has gained and my arms have lost. I wonder if that is even possible! I think that because ironman training is so strange, I can't really predict my body (hunger, weight, fat, fatigue) as well as when I am living a normal life (half marathons and such) :D

I haven't been part of this group for some time now, but thought I would share a success story of losing that last under- ten -pounds that tends to stay on.
I have tried at different times to get my weight back into the 130's where I feel best, but have hovered in the low 140's for a couple of years. I think I wasn't really THAT motivated because I don't look that bad (in cothes ;)) at that weight so wasn't willing to do anything that was too much work. Plus, I always feel like I should be able to lose weight just because I know so well what I have to do; however, it wasn't happening. I was also avoiding the scales because I knew I wouldn't like what I saw.
When I finally got on the scale in Jan., I was horrified but not really surprised to see that I was at my all time highest non-pregnancy weight, so action was required. This is what worked:
1. Wrote down everything I ate and counted calories for the first 4 weeks . It is a pain, but every time I have lost significant weight, this is what I had to do. On line programs are great, but it is easier for me just to do it manually. I quit writing everything down after that, but kept on eating the same way. My calorie goal was 1200-1300 plus extra for exercise. I used the Cyclist's Guide to Nutrition to figure out what I needed for days I biked. Some days it was well over 2000 calories.
2. Did dramatically cut out junk food and refined carbs, but did not do a low carb, low fat or any other kind of "diet", just counted calories. I tended to eat 5 mini-meals throughout the day so I wouldn't get hungry.
3. Did an on-line weekly weigh in with my sister who was participating in a biggest loser contest at her company. We just happened to be at the same starting and goal weight.
And that is it. Didn't change my normal exercise, except I did start doing gentle yoga twice a week in January. I read recently that women who do yoga are more mindful about what they eat and tend to not gain weight, so maybe it helped. I did it to improve flexibility and ward off joint problems. In the winter I do one or two 45 minute cycling classes a week and work out on the elliptical for one or two sessions for a total of 4 cardio workouts. I also do strength training and/or yoga 2 - 3 times a week. As the weather improves, I substitute outdoor rides for the indoor cardio.
It came off SLOWLY. It has taken since late Jan. to lose 8 pounds. I know that doesn't sound like much to some of you, but believe, me, when you get down to those last 7 to 10 pounds, they absolutely do not want to budge! When the scale didn't move some weeks, I told myself that I was still healthier because I was eating better food and taking good care of my body and just continued on doing what I was doing.
Anyway, I weighed in at 136 this morning and am thrilled because all my clothes are loose now :) I hope my cycling improves some now that I have a little less weight to pedal up the hills!

I'm going to say no change this week.
It's tough to say. I've had one of those weird weeks where my weight has been all over the place from day to day -- fluctuations of several pounds -- so there's some kind of water thing going on. It's frustrating.

I'm going to go with 'no change' for me this week since I weighed 161.something both Friday and Saturday (even though both days, my routine was messed up). Today I'm down a little, so I'm hopeful for next week.
Here's the interesting part. About three weeks ago (when I first hit 161 on the scale) I tried on all the clothes in my 161 bin (I'll explain in a minute) and only about 1/2 of them fit. Yesterday, I tried on all the rest and everything fit fine even though my weight is the same. I am definitely smaller. I'm wearing my belts on different holes and I've moved some of my 'fat pants' into the 'donate' bin. I also had to buy a new pair of work pants yesterday because my fat pants were too big and looking very unprofessional and I'm not quite small enough for the next set of work pants. Yay!
So, the bin thing. My weight has varied by about 40 lbs over the past 3-4 years. Because of this, I have LOTS of differently sized clothing. When we moved here, I put everything into my main closet (which is huge, yay!) but it got very depressing looking at all these clothes that I was too fat to wear. About 3-4 months ago, I went crazy trying on and organizing my whole closet. Everything that didn't fit went into bins and the bins were labeled based on what weight I needed to be to fit into them. Easy enough to do since most of those scale weights were quite recent and I could remember what I weighed when based on where I was living at the time. ;) So now, I just cleared out the 161 bin. The next one is a 155 bin which contains most of my shorts - so I need to get there soon before it gets too much warmer here! I have bins going all the way down to 130 lbs where the clothing size dips into the 4's and 2's (now I'm in 10's & 12's). It's cool because this way, I don't see the clothes every day and when I do get to open the bins, it's like Christmas for free! Plus, many of these clothes have good memories tied to them, so it'll be fun to be able to wear them again. :) AND, my closet feels WAY bigger now that it's not stuffed with useless items anymore.

Still at 232 here.
I attended a luau/memorial service for my father-in-law yesterday. He died of cancer on April 26th. That's father number three since November for folks keeping track (my father, grandfather, and now Bob). My daughter is fresh out of grandpas.
The losses have been really hard on me, and compounded by the car accident in February that took me out of my regular training schedule for two months while I've been recovering. My wrist is still a bit sore, especially on long rides. I tried 16 miles a few days ago and my hand was numb the whole time. I kept shifting position, but I had to ice it as soon as I finished.
I'm on the mend, though.

Lime - you're doing fantastic. You've dropped so much in the past year - it must feel so good!
I'm glad you enjoyed every morsel. Seriously. I think an indulgence now and again is really important. If we never allow ourselves any treat, we not only get resentful of the whole process, but we also don't learn how to survive "in the real world" of eating day to day once we accomplish our goals.
Afterall, there isn't just "gain weight" or "lose weight" mode. There's also "maintain weight" mode. So, if you have a treat and maintain for a week, that's tells you something about what kind of eating habits you'll need to maintain later to sustain your new healthy weight.

Read an article that suggested losing 10%, holding that for a few months to get your body re-aligned, then losing 10%...
I've never seen that suggestion before, but my body seems to agree, ever since I made that 10% mark, the weight loss has been painfully slow.

That seems so true. When I look at mydailyplate weight chart, I'll have 3-4 weeks where I drop weight. Then I'll have 2-3 weeks where I hold steady again. As I get closer to my goal weight, that "plateau" gets a little longer and a little longer ;) But that's weeks, not months.
My goal for this year was to get down to 160lbs. I'm hoping to reach that in August. After that, I want to maintain for 5-6 months. Then relook at my weight again in 2011 and possibly pursue further weight loss.
Losing weight, although a good thing, can be stressful on a body!

I did a "little bike ride" this weekend. http://forums.teamestrogen.com/showthread.php?t=37908 I calculated that I burned in excess of 12,000 calories on that ride. I didn't weigh myself on Monday, but I did on Tuesday and was up SIX POUNDS. Today, I'm down SEVEN from last Friday, so it was obviously all water. Neither of these things surprised me.
Why do I mention it? Because I often read threads on these forums from people who fret about "gaining weight" after bike rides. Repairing muscles need lots of water to recover and rebuild. Just like me, your body will release that water when the job is done.
So - I'd recommend hiding your scale and weighing yourself just once a week. We are all going to fluctuate day to day. It's the long term trend in your weight that really matters, not the day to day bouncing around. Weighing yourself every day can easily discourage you. (I know from whence I speak - been there, done that. :o )
Nice work this week ladies!! Keep it up!!
BTW - Limewave, you're doing amazing!! How much are you down total since your daughter was born? Seems to me I recall you being over 200 then.

Susan, that's so true. After my 25k, I was up 2-3 pounds. And after an Adventure Race, forget it! I'm always up 5-8 pounds. I don't worry about it anymore because, as you mentioned, a day or two after that I'm back down. I figured it was water and maybe lactic acid and inflammation.
Anyways, I'm down quite a bit! I think about 35-40 pounds since May of last year when I had my son. I have a DD too, but she's 4.
I think around December of 2009 I had given up hope of getting my weight back down and I took most of my clothes to GoodWill. I am really regretting that now. I did hang on to my most favorite clothing items and its great to be wearing them again.
One of my goals is to fit into my wedding dress for our anniversary in mid-July. FYI, I did not have a traditional wedding. I wore a silk summer dress from Ann Taylor. I have one more size to go down and it will fit! I can already put it on and zip it up, it just pulls on the hips.

Another family member died from cancer, channlluv? I'm sorry for your losses. {{{{hugs}}}
Yes. My father-in-law, three days after his 74th birthday, in April. My grandfather died in January, and my father died in November. All three were in hospice care and all three had family with them at the time of their passing. I was there for my father and grandfather. My husband was by his father's side when he took his last breath.
Three days later my mother was hospitalized with what they thought was a stroke, but turned out to be a really severe migraine -- she's on heavy narcotics now to control the pain -- and my grandmother took a fall, broke a vertebrae and is now in ICU because her blood pressure shot up so high it aggravated an aneurysm near her belly button.
And I can't seem to get back under 230. It's minor compared to all the other stuff going on, but there it is.

Hi everybody. I am on a mission to lose weight this summer. Perimenopausal hot flashes and extra weight are not what I consider a good time, and though I've let myself drift so far from where I was, cycling-wise, I'm taking control, and starting NOW to get back somewhere in the vicinity of where I use to be. I'm determined.
I have a goal to ride Mon, Wed, and Fridays, indefinitely. It is a goal I've put off for about 5 years now, but this is IT. (I also hike with dog a lot, and do a lot of physical work in the garden). I have been just doing some trails around my cabin, but plan on taking to the pavement and getting in some time soon, gradually. I am 178 now, and goal to be at least 149 next Autumnal Equinox (Sept 22).

Well, my plateau continues, and I'm not going to make my June goal. But, I'm not going to gain, either, darnit!

I was 131.6 today. that is the highest weight in 2 years for me!!

Today is my Birthday, as a gift to myself I'm not getting any where near a scale. Please count me in for the next challenge.

I'm definitely in for the next round. If we're starting today... my morning weigh-in was 277 pounds. No, that's not a typo.
My goal is 265 or 12 pounds lost, about 1.5 pounds a week in an 8 week challenge.

Thanks, Trisk!
Honestly, I think a big part of my success lately (besides having my new interest in triathlons to keep me working out!) is the lack of artificial hormones in my body. I am 100% synthetic hormone free for the first time in over 20 years. Now, when I eat in a deficit, I actually lose weight. Go figure! ;)
I'm also tracking more than just my weight, so I'm getting lots of feedback to keep me motivated when the scale doesn't move.
Only 21 lbs to go to my goal!

the next round will start on the 9th of July actually, and I'll have a new thread for that one and will miss you if you post in this one (likely). So wait until I post that one. I'm a bit behind due to my Tour de France stalking in Europe right now. :)

I'm up for the next round, too, obviously. I need the help. I'm back up to 234.

Now that we are, in effect, between challenges I FINALLY made it to my original target weight! I am now 135.6 pounds :D :) :D It has been decades since I have been this small!
Now I get to ponder what to put on the next challenge...

catrin,
you and I are at the exact same size...I hit 135 on Monday. I weighed less (for a little while) in college at 120, but I was a bigger size, I think I was an 8 then. Now, I am a 4-6 which is uncharted territory for me.

If it wasn't for my stomach I would also be a 4-6 - but I carry all of my weight in my stomach. I think I can fit into a 6 but it is a little snug around the waist - but 8's are too large for my legs. NOW when I look down all I can see are my girls and then my feet. Nothing in-between :D :) :D There was a time when I honestly thought that I would never be able to do that :o
I would like to lose 5 more pounds I think, and then reconsider. I need to make sure I am fueling properly for endurance.... It will be fun to see what size/weight I am after the brevet I am training for...

Yeah, I made that same decision a couple of months ago. I decided to eat for better performance rather than weightloss. I very quickly notice if I am not eating enough because my riding suffers and it takes about a week of eating enough for my riding to get back up to par.
