Awwwwww! So cute! Dogs are the best thing you can acquire in my opinion :) I'm at my city's legal limit otherwise I'd have more!

I can't decide what I'm more excited about- "Frodo" or the new bike I'm going to pick up this afternoon!

How sweet! Details, we want details-- is he full grown, mutt or identifiable breed, etc.?

What a sweet baby! Where did you acquire him from?
I can't stop looking at adoptable dogs, either....maybe it's the warming weather ;)
Good luck with him and keep us updated :)

What breed of doggie did you get?
He looks as if he's welcoming people into your house :)

I can't believe how lucky I got, actually. I overheard a conversation a co-worker was having about a friend of hers having to get her dog put down because she couldn't take care of it anymore. I could not let that happen obviously. I don't know what people think, or even if they think at all. So I had some major convincing to do to my husband. We lost a dog to old age health issues back in the fall, and I told him I wouldn't pressure him to get another dog. But after I saw Frodo's picture all bets were off.
He ( the dog, not the husband) has been worked with a lot and is very well trained. He is 2 years old. He is not hyper, but has a lot of energy and needs to exercise and be involved in a family. We definitely are that. We are a herd actually, between teenagers, cats, guinea pigs, friends etc.
He is good with the cats, and my schedule allows me to be home enough to take care of his needs. On the first day I had him we went visiting, and on a walk, and to Tractor Supply Company and he was a very well behaved boy.
To my best guess, he is an Australian shepherd, border collie mix, but I am taking him to the vet today for shots and a checkup. He has a blue eye and a brown eye. He's a very handsome dog.
I'll post more on the bike later. I still don't know which I'm more excited about!

That's just sick! You said he's only 2 years old and a good boy. What the heck was that dimwit thinking? I'm so GLAD you heard the conversation. He deserves a long, happy life with a pack that loves him. :)

I don't know what people think, or even if they think at all.
I totally agree with that statement. I used to volunteer at our local Humane Society (which is not a "no kill" shelter:mad:) and I had to stop, it was just too much sometimes. I could not believe some people could just drop a dog off, turn around and, never look back:eek:. A dog or any pet, for that matter is a lifetime commitment--period!!!
I would have done the same in your shoes.
He looks as if he's welcoming people into your house :)
Or like he just showed up on the doorstep.

I think because I was hearing several "stories' , like for instance the dog has had all his shots, and I would get a crate with him, those both turned out not to be true. I had to take him to the vet for shots, and he did not like that at all. He doesn't need a crate at this point. I also have to wonder if the former owner might have said she was having him put down just to get some sympathetic person to adopt him, but my vet said people do it that way all the time. Can a vet refuse to do it? I'm glad I was able to save him, and got a nice companion in the process. It's unconscionable to end a dogs life because a person can't take care of him. I can't even imagine.

Can't take care of him, or doesn't feel like it anymore? I just jump to the conclusion that anyone who would put a dog down rather than try to find a new home for it is just too lazy to try. Anyone who really cared about their pet would have a hard time doing that. To me, it's a sign that that person shouldn't be allowed to have pets. I'm sure there are extenuating circumstances (the dog is vicious, the person is very ill, and has already tried everything in his power to place him with another family, etc).
I'm so glad he's found a good home!

Well done for giving that gorgeous dog a new home! It sounds like he's fit in with your "herd" very nicely :) What a lucky puppy to have such a nice new family!
