I have bad feet due to some congentinal issues. I typically ignore them unless something new turns up or if certain warning signs present themselves.

In spinning class I do clip in, but right now on my bike I use BMX-style pedals and athletic shoes (some may remember who read my posts a month or so ago on the clipless gymnastics that occurred when I tried to make the change). It just isn't time for that yet, as I am reminded every time I see the scars on my legs  :p :o

My feet stay on the BMX pedals just fine, but after my 13 mile ride on Saturday my feet were sore. This is a first. It was pretty much the entire bottom of my feet though focused a little more towards the front half of my feet rather than the rear - that makes sense.

I am wondering if stiffer shoes would help this in the future. I am thinking about getting a pair of Keens cycling sandals - curious to hear if others have experienced this.

I think stiffer shoes will help. I have Keen commuter sandals. I bet you'll love them.

This is good to know....now I just have to figure out when I can get them. The new bike and his needs have certainly taken whatever "extra" money I had :o

Catrin, do you cycle with mostly the forefoot on the pedal? Have you tried lowering your saddle 1-2 mm so that you can pedal with more of your arch centered over the pedal? Your knees may or may not like that but it's worth experimenting if it will help alleviate the pressure.

One of the perks about platform pedals is that you can wear all kinds of shoes. :) Just hop on an go!
