Inspired in part by the piss you off thread...

What are some of the little things that just make you feel good?

I like it when it's a bright sunshiny day, but the top of Mt Diablo has snow.

I like watching Tucker Cat climb all over our steel man on a wheel sculpture.

I smile when Cassie Cat manages to jump up onto the bed with her bug on a stick toy.

I like the song "Love Goes Boom" by Bowling for Soup.

Warm chocolate chip cookies!

Good ones, V.

I LOVE waking up in a warm bed when it's cold and feeling all snuggly.

I LOVE the beautiful sunrises and sunsets around here. When riding to work in the morning I LOVE the sunrise, and looking out my back window at sunset makes me so happy..

My husband and my dad bought me bags of Robin's Eggs because they know they only sell them at Easter and I love them.

My sweet little Heidi Ho snuggling up to me.

Tortilla chasing hair ties, dust bunnies or Heidi.

Hearing my husband laugh, it is what made me love him because we laughed so much.

The bluebonnets blooming, reminds me of my Maggie Bear and brings the biggest smile to my face.

A fun downhill on the mountain bike. WEEEEEE!!!

The smell of the mountain laurels blooming.

Baby goats they have to be some of the funniest critters.

Life's Little Pleasures:

Laying on clean cotton sheets after a cold shower following a hot summertime ride!

The rush after climbing a 15% grade hill

Driving with the top down on a 70 degree day

Hearing my daughter say "Daaaadeeee" (even though I know she want's something)

Ian's humour and intelligence

Being able to spin properly through deep sections of pea gravel

Picking the right line and having a sweet mtb ride

Our crazy doggies. Enjoying the waves w Yukon at the doggie beach. Laughing at Ozzie's stoned dog look.

Kookaburras giggling

Bobtails and Kangaroos on the trails

Despite my post from the pisses me off thread that I hate people talking my Spinnnig class... I love it when they talk after class and one person says, "...*sigh* thanks, I needed that". I teach mainly at night to the after work crowd. It makes me feel like the Goddess Of Stress Relief. And I know exactly where they are coming from. The passion of pedaling soothes their souls. I can never go without smiling when I think of that (&that I get to deliver it to them).

I love seeing an older couple (70s+yo) holding hands... like it was their first day being in love (though you know they have probably been together many years).

I love seeing Mother Nature's creatures. Like watching my wild birds feed.

I love seeing frost on my breath on the first crisp sunny Fall day.

I love looking at the bushes and trees that have been dorment all winter now suddenly starting to explode with pretty green leaves & buds. Renew = rejoice.

I love these stupid little coffee lid hole covers my favorite shop has. They change for each season, and some have sayings on them. I look forward to what silly little thing will be rotated in next.

Good thought, Veronica, and as someone who was quick to post on the piss you off thread, I feel like I should contribute equally or greater to this thread!

- First leaves and flowers of spring

- My dog sitting politely in hopes that he will get treats from the table; watching him chase his tail because I accidently dropped a little creme fraiche on him!

- Coming home from a few days out of town to find that DH has washed my car

- Getting letters, postcards and pictures from friends and family who are far away

- Watching seniors skate at the West Edmonton Mall and picking out which ones are pretending like they're not trying to lap everyone else.

- Learning a new skill.

.. watching him chase his tail because I accidently dropped a little creme fraiche on him!

Accidental?? Yeh, sure it was! ;)

I like watching my doggie snooze. He always looks so peaceful and happy. In wintertime, I wrap him up in a blanket, and all I can see of him is his head sticking out. It's awfully cute and makes me grin like an idiot! :D

Three golden retrievers, tails wagging in unison & big goofy golden smiles on their faces, waiting patiently for their cookies.

My DH's brown eyes and the sound of his laughter.

Eastern Red Bud trees in bloom....and of course, tulips!

The early morning light when the sky is clear and filled with stars.

The feel of bike tires on dry pavement, particularly after a long winter spent on the trainer.

A lane to myself in the pool for an entire swim!

A beautifully written novel (particularly one that makes me cry).

Four-year-old t-ball players make me smile.

Four-year-old t-ball players hitting the ball and then running after it instead of running to first base cracks me right up.

Four-year-old t-ball players who all put their hands in and yell Go Team on cue after being shown how just one time thrills me to no end.

Right now, I'm loving coming home to my new husband. That puts an immediate smile on my face.

I also love watching him interact with my cats. He loves them as much (well, almost as much) as I do. We thought we might lose Sophie Kitty earlier in the year, so to see her sitting on his lap each night makes me smile.

Ice cream. Seriously, I have a problem. :p

On Friday, I noticed that the trees were starting to flower. That definitely made me happy.

There's a little boy--Collin--whose father is a regular on another forum I frequent (I think Snap has mentioned him here a time or two). He's had a long and scary battle with leukemia, but he turned a corner about a month ago. Every time I read an update indicating that he's getting better and better, I smile (and tear up).

Thanks, V, for this thread.

That blue-black sky just before the sun truly sets.

Snow on the Santa Cruz Mountains and Mt Hamilton.

Dogs and puppies.

Coming down a hill at 35-45mph on a bike.

Smell of dry grass on the hills in the summertime (makes me remember cardboarding down 'em).

The smell of early morning.

The smell of rain on dry pavement.

The feeling you've hit some pedaling rhythm on the bike and it's just smooth.

Ducks!

I work near an inlet of the SF Bay, and from time to time ducks hang out around the buildings.

They're so goofy looking, they always make me laugh.

I'm also starting to see quail on my rides, they're a hoot too.

Taking pictures of my boys sleeping.
They are 17 and 19 now and I still snap them when I get the chance. They call me a "creeper" but I only do it now when we are camping, sharing a hotel room or I catch them on the sofa. What's creepy about that...they just grow up so fast!

Catching sight of my my GTI in a parking lot.
It is so playful with its potato cutter wheels. Not at all appropriate for a mom who will be 50 in June! Gotta love that turbo whine.

Seeing my husband hitch up his tool belt.
He has this special move like he's getting ready for a gun fight in the wild west. He's a desk guy who knows how to use tools. He builds me things for a hobby instead of hunting, fishing or golfing. I love working along side of him.

Being out in the pre-dawn quiet, feeling/hearing the world waking up around me. I suspect that I will enjoy it even more when I am confident enough to ride that early - I already have a great headlight :)

Riding my bike when the only sounds I can hear are those of my tire on the pavement and the birds in the trees beside the road.

Hiking a MTB trail and watching mtb riders along the way.

Listening to the water fountain outside of my apartment with all of my windows open, stretched out on the couch reading a good book or doing needlework.

Love this thread. :) Lots of things make me smile but here's just a few:

when my big alpha-male malamute decides he's a lap dog.
when I get home from work and his sister scolds me for being gone.
honestly, pretty much everything else the dogs do.
coming home after a hard day at work and finding that hubby has already cooked dinner so I don't have to.
A sunny day when the forecast said rain.

Yep. When I first started seriously riding, I was going through a tough breakup, and my biggest release was my ride in Zionsville, i.e., the only one that I felt confident to do at that point in time. It was late summer, so the only thing I would typically hear during my rides was the loud buzzing of all te summer bugs. I loved that sound. Even when off the bike, all I had to do to go to my "happy place" was to picture the whir of my bike wheels and imagine the sounds of summer. My pulse would immediately drop.

Those were good times. It's a wonderful thing to discovery something, be it riding, yoga, walking, gardening, etc., that makes you feel at peace when your world otherwise doesn't feel so good.

Goat babies.

The smell of warm dirt.

Seeing buds on all our fruit trees.

Lying in bed, before the alarm goes off, warm and cozy, and listening to the rain on the roof.

Watching the tiny 6 lb cat attack the 2 70lb dogs with not a single ounce of fear.

When my husband pours me a glass of wine, cooks me dinner, or heats up my side of the bed without any suggestion from me.

Talking to the plants in our garden or greenhouse. This actually makes me laugh out loud at myself - maybe I'm going insane?

I admit, it's hard to make me smile... I tend to be too serious about most things.

My DH still makes me smile after 30 years of marriage. I still want to be with him all of the time, even now.

The smell of all of the seasons. It's hard to explain, but each season in New England has a certain smell. And the smell of pinon, (sorry, no little Spanish mark to put above the n in that word), on a clear December night in the desert. One of the few things I miss about AZ.

Memories of funny things with my kids.

I love ducks too. Contented waddling things, and so pretty. And pigs too, not quite as pretty but contented.

And cats, of course. Nothing like a cat pretending to be undignified (which would never happen, of course) to make me smile :) Our late beloved Raptus had a trick of spreading full out on her back with paws spread, apparently begging for a fuzzy belly rub, but if you didn't catch her beady look at the same time you'd get a handful of claws for your trouble.

I love everything about the geography and climate around me. I chose to move back here after 23 years of being away. It will be 20 years on June 4th. I have never, never regretted my choice. I can go out my door, in every season , and pretty much do the sport of my choice.

I'm not much for silly stuff, gushy stuff, jokes, etc. Always been overly realistic and practical. Well, there's plenty of TE people who have met me, to know I'm pretty normal, but I admit I don't like a lot of things most people get ga-ga over. I won't list the things here, or *I* might get on the list of things that piss people off!

Oh, and there is nothing in the world that smells as good as a sleepy cat :p

I must agree with this one!

My last cat learned a "gentle" way to wake me when she decided I had slept long enough - she would stretch out on the pillow next to me and very gently stroke my cheek with soft paws and purr very loudly. I couldn't ignore her and go back to sleep either - if I rolled over then she would move with me and mix a soft meow with the purring... The memory of this makes me smile.

Playing a great set of tunes with friends in a session... or for a room full of contra dancers

Riding my bike on a beautiful day, especially with my husband

Talking to my daughter in England on Skype

Finishing a really good book

Getting ready to enjoy a meal with a plate of vibrant colors, textures and aromas. And finishing the same meal

Watching Irish dancers perform - especially when it was my son (now "retired")

Seeing birds in their fresh spring plumage. The songs of thrushes.

The smell of wine fermenting right outside my house (we finally started crush on Monday)

Spontaneous hugs from my boys

The Peruvian meadowlark that taps on my office window because it thinks its reflection is another bird

Coming downstairs in the a.m. and finding that DH has made coffee for me. Awesome.

Line-dried laundry. Watching my almost 2yo daughter go crazy over an ant on the sidewalk.

Life is pretty good around here!

Beautiful Spring (warm) weather with very little wind!

Yesterday's first road ride with old friend in the warm spring weather with very little wind

The beautiful Osprey soaring overhead, round and round!

I love spring when there is little wind

...............stepping out in the sun today and walking and while stopping a few times, listening to the birds and noticing different flowers that have now bloomed.

Funny really, usually I am dashing about like a blue a*sed fly never having time to notice much at all.

Life is good.

Well, following along Tuckervill's post, watching my 27 yr. old son ride like the wind on our group ride, despite the fact he's riding my younger son's 10 year old Serotta, with a regular double, flat pedals, and a vicious headwind. Never mind that the nice Craft jacket I bought him already has so much grease on it, it looks 100 years old and his tights have a zipper missing.
And seeing his closest friend, who he met when we moved to MA in 1990, riding with us, too, was inspiring. He spent all summer doing a self supported tour in Europe....

the cabbage and swiss chard sprouting in my garden...

the first farmer's market of the spring downtown-- and having trouble finding a place to lock up my bike there, because there were already so many bikes parked here there and everywhere...

New one - just happened the first time today:

Thinking about taking the bike around a corner to go on a street I've not yet been on and my bike just does it. No prompting from me or being afraid I will fall over:D

Ok, so far only one of my bikes will do this, my Trek still seems to require more attention in cornering, but this made me REALLY smile on my first ride on my new LHT today :) It was COOL!

Well-mannered kids, like someone already mentioned

A friendly cat or dog

Reading a book outside on a nice day

Working in the garden barefoot

Swimming in the lake or ocean

Running or hiking along a nice trail

Finding a patch of blueberries, raspberries etc. along the trail

Bombing down a hill on the bike after working hard to get up said hill

Medical humor

Using or hearing someone use the word "defenestrate"

Upbeat Irish tunes

Snowshoeing in fresh, deep snow before anyone else has made tracks

Learning something new

When my Sunday School kids really understand the lesson

And lots of other things...fortunately these outnumber my pet peeve list by a lot!!!

My sweet puppy Heidi who is now mostly toothless being excited to see me at the vet.

My vet staff snickering on the voicemail because they didn't realize they would be telling someone "Tortilla" has an appointment.

Tortilla twitching her pretty much non-existent tail, manx cats are too fun.

Imagining the feeling of crossing the finish line (or flashing back to it), no matter what part of day, where you are, or what you're doing.

A drink of water after a run or ride - even if I've been drinking the whole time.

When I run with the dog and we really connect, like we could do it forever. At that moment in time, I imagine we are both enjoying our most base desire to be free and light on our feet, connected on a level that's so fundamental to how both of us work. She always reminds me that sometimes the simplest way to think is to think simply.

amen to the cool shower and add an iced cappucinno for true bliss.

The feeling of being at one with the world and the day and the ride and the bike. Such a joyful ease of self confidence.

The sight of my very short legged corgie Sadie scooting down the stairs and sliding across the wood floor when she comes down from my weaving studio.

Tortilla getting a clean bill of health at her annual check up. And she forgave me for putting her in the carrier once we got home (scratched me bad when I put her in).

Hearing mourning doves on my ride, reminds me of my Mammaw. We always slept in the same bed when I would visit her growing up. No A/C so I woke in the morning to the doves singing outside the back windows. That just made me think of her old crank out windows, I thought they were so cool. :D
