I'd like to do 30 - 35 with no big hills. I'm in South San Jose and have lovely riding terrain near my house (country roads and reservoirs), but I'm also willing to drive a bit to ride with someone else.
Any takers?

I'm doing a 50-miler called "The Lettuce Ride" in the Salinas Valley tomorrow (Salinas to Gonzales and back) with two non-roadies, so the pace will be very slow. They also have 10, 20 and 100 mile courses. It starts at 8:00AM. It should be a fun, flat, low-effort ride. Wanna do it? But you'd have to wake up pretty darn early! :o

If I weren't leaving for Santa Fe for the weekend in 20 minutes, I'd come ride with you! As compensation, I'm meeting CorsairMac in Albuquerque on Tuesday night for dinner - I feel like I'm going to be meeting a celebrity! (This forum is so cool - where else would you feel comfortable meeting a person you only know online?)
But please, keep the invites coming -- I only have 289 days to get ready for the AIDS ride! I need all the miles I can get!

If it didn't cost I'd be there in a heartbeat. That looks like a 50 miler that I could actually do. Dang.

If I'd known about this (and if I felt better!), I'd have gone down there tonight for that ride! It really looks like good ride.

I'm going on an ACTC club ride tomorrow, which is being led by a couple of friends of mine. It starts at the VTA Park & Ride lot at the corner of Coleman & Winfield in San Jose (couple of blocks off Almaden Expressway, near Almaden Lake Park).
There are a couple of hills, Bailey Road & Buffalo Hill.
The ride leaders (both women) are quite good, and they mean it when they say no-one is left behind.
The ride is classified L to LM
The L ("Leisurely") classification being 10-12 mph. Stops as needed.
and LM ("Easy moderate"): 12-14 mph. Regroups approx. every 30 min.
Roll-out time is 9 am so you should be there by 8:45. Non-members are welcome. C'mon down!
Here's the ride description:
-----
Sat, 20 Aug 2005 Lunch in Morgan Hill

Hey Jo! I was thinking about trying this one tomorrow. I'm just afraid I won't be able to make it up Bailey. I suppose I can always walk it if I have to. Do you know where they're planning on doing lunch?

There's a strip mall down in Morgan Hill where we've stopped in the past. There's a deli (ack, I'm blanking - Eddys?) and a Togo's, among other choices.
Just take Bailey slow & steady. You'll likely have company - we're not a "racy" group :)

I could ride up it with you. I haven't ridden in about 2 weeks so I'll want to (hah, I'll probably have to) take it slow.
I do prefer going *down* Bailey, though, LOL!

Right, it's the big lot behind all the apt buildings, at the VTA stop. I'll have the dark red bike with the pretty lugs, black saddlebag and fat tires :)

If anybody is just dying to ride the flats, we'll be doing our traditional Davis to Winters and around Lake Solano on Sunday morning. I just know how many of you like rides that have no coasting at all and require only 2 gears - one for headwind and one for tailwind. :p

Hey Jobob, how was the ride? I feel better about not going because I got to watch my 5 year old learn to ride his bike without training wheels this morning! It was awesome and I'm so glad I didn't miss it.
I hoe you guys had a great ride. I didn't end up getting out at all today. Oh well. Maybe tomorrow afternoon.

Hey jo - did you see any nice "fire cleansed" areas on Bailey? That's where my friend went down on his motorcycle 3 weeks ago.
(He's doing fine, move to a convalecent hospital until he can use his upper body.)

"Fire cleansed?" Was there a fire out there recently?

Friend crashed his motorcycle, he flew over the car, bike went under the car and caught fire. Most exciting. I joke now, because we know he is going to recover fully. Imagine being a 32 year old guy in a convalecent hospital with a whole bunch of elderlly folks........

Wow! I'm glad it all worked out well for him. That does sound pretty harrowing! Is the person in the car okay?

Yes, they got out unscathed. Two german exchange students - what a story they have to tell!
Back on topic - jo, who led the ride today?

So Snap, have you been keeping anything from us??? :D
It was a good ride (let by Carol and Aileen). Snap, I'm sorry to say I had forgotten your friend's accident was on Bailey, and I didn't notice any burned-out areas while I plodded up.
Shannon, sorry you couldn't make it ! Some other time, I hope.
