Hi,

For those of you that compete in longer races (OLY,HIM)? What type of bike do you ride? A road bike w/ or w/o aerobars or a specifc TT/Tri Bike?

I had been riding my road bike with aero bars.

But I just got a Cervelo S3 so I'll be riding that w/o aero bars this year. I went with a road race bike instead of a time trial bike because once I've got everything dialed in, I'll only be riding it for races. Maybe once in awhile for non race rides... it's the only way I'm faster than my husband. :p

Because the position is SO different on a time trial bike, I would need to ride it more often, just to get accustomed to it. The Cervelo handling is so similar to my current road bike, that I can ride only for races and not need to get use to it. And it's so much faster than my Rivendell Legolas. :D

For me, it depends in part on how hilly the route is (hilly=road bike). In general, it also depends on whether you can stay aero for the entire distance of your race. From what I've read, if you can't stay aero for at least 2/3 the time then you are better off on a road bike.

I do sprint duathlons. Ride a road bike with aero bars.
