View Full Version : Clickstand for birdwatching

Does anyone know if a Clickstand will hold the bike up better than a standard kickstand?

For birdwatching I need to park where the birds are, and the usual methods (cabling to a tree or fence) either aren't available or would take too long. The ground is often muddy, and it's windy so my bike falls over way too often with just a kickstand.

I'm not worried about weight or extra doodads, as my birdwatching days involve carrying lots of food and stuff, so one more item won't matter.

ETA: Tomorrow I am going to try propping the bike with a bungee cord to hold the wheel straight (as suggested in an earlier thread about Clickstands here) but there's not always a convenient tree, so I'm still interested in the Clickstand.

I just got my click-stand, and like it so far, although I haven't had a chance to try it out on varying outdoor surfaces yet.

They have a heavier duty click stand product called the "Click Stand Max" that's a heavier gauge. I'd call the guy who makes them and ask him your question, or send him an email.

His name is Tom Nostrant, and his contact info is on his website, but I'll paste it here as well.

He's a retired school teacher, and when I called to place my order he was very helpful and patiently answered all my questions.

Pam, I know this thread is pretty old, but I have been looking in to something to hold my bike up while I bird, as well. Did you ever get a Click-Stand?

No, I got tired of dealing with "stuff" and changed my mind about adding an extra doo-dad. I started laying the bike down (there's usually room).

I still think the Clickstand looks like a great idea and might get one some day.

Okay, thanks. I might try one. I emailed him about which strength I will need. I'll let you know once I get it and use it!

I got a click stand and love it. Granted, I'm not carrying heavy gear on my bike but it works on grass, uneven surfaces and concrete. The trick is to use the brake bands that some with the click stand. It has not been super windy so I can't comment on that either, but I find the click stand to be super convenient and I'm glad I spent the $30 for one.

Thanks for the good review, jyyanks! I would probably be carrying less than ten pounds in a rear rack bag when I have my birding gear.
