Kent Island - Centerville MD

Is anyone familiar with riding in this area? I have to work at a boat show at the Bay Bridge Marina late in April and I want to get some riding in since I will be gone for 6 days. Specifically, I'd like to know if I can safely ride Rt 18 over to Kent Island so I can commute from my hotel to the boat show? Where might be a good place to stay so that I can access good roads during my off duty hours? I was thinking maybe Grasonville or Centreville? Any suggested routes? I have to be at the show by 10:00 AM-ish each day, but sunrise is at 6:00 AM in April!

Any info on the area would be appreciated!
