Need help. Started riding a few months ago, stuck to MTB on the road in the hills where I live in Jamaica. Swore I would never ride a road bike despite all my friends telling me I would evolve to a road bike eventually. Well they were right and the day has come. I borrowed a friends road bike, not sure of the name, something spanish, and I really, really enjoyed my first few rides on it.
I am now looking at buying my first road bike and this is where i need some help. Looking at:
1. a friend is the Cannondale dealer here in Jamaica and is suggesting the Cannondale six carbon 5, price around $2,400 with 105's
2. another friend has a very, very lightly used Trek Madone 5.2, probably a 2009 model and he is willing to sell for $2,000

I understand the Trek is a much better bike than the Cannondale, doubt I would be able to tell the difference but the advice I get is to start with the Trek and grow into it.
I like the idea of buying new from the dealer what with all the support and warranty etc.

Help, need advice.

I like the Trek better. It's a higher end bike. Good price. The Cannondale is slightly overpriced. It should be cheaper.

Do you trust your friend with the used Trek? If so...get the Trek. And go your local Trek dealer if you ever have any problems with the bike.

thanks team trinity for your advice but alas there are no trek dealers here in Jamaica. Other than the Cannondale dealer who is a good friend of mine there really are no other bike dealers or lbs's. Welcome to jamaica mon.
Is the Trek better enough where a beginner like myself would notice or appreciated the differenecs betweeen the two bikes?

The best bike is the one that fits.

Have you taken the Trek for a test ride?
